Akinomaki 41,710 Posted October 25, 2023 Kami town in Hyogo pref. places kensho on the final bout as PR for having people target them for the hometown support tax, maybe the first such kensho use. Municipalities that placed kensho so far have been most recently Kirishima on Kirishima http://www.kobe-np.co.jp/news/tajima/202310/0016953188.shtml On 05/09/2019 at 20:33, Akinomaki said: Terutsuyoshi gets kensho from his hometown Minami-Awaji - support for him and PR for the city, which costs them about 1.1. million yen: about 60 000 yen for the banner and 15 times now 70 000 yen for one kensho each day. it's not that rare any-more On 08/01/2016 at 17:05, Akinomaki said: the city of Itoigawa in Niigata for Hakuho. They have strong connections with sumo, especially the jungyo, but it is rare for a municipality to place kensho. The responsible NSK person: "It would be great if that spreads, for support of local rikishi etc." On 13/01/2018 at 20:14, Akinomaki said: new sponsor is also Sasebo-city, Nagasaki - after 2 years a municipality again - the 4th time On 21/04/2018 at 11:44, Akinomaki said: The 5th of those rare kensho from a municipality, new for the Natsu basho: from Kikugawa-city in Shizuoka, ordered by the Kikugawa Green Tea Association It will be placed on the 4th before the last torikumi each day, with the announcement of "The place of origin for deep steamed green tea, Shizuoka prefecture's Kikugawa-city"
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 10, 2023 1350 kensho have been applied for so far - Terunofuji kyujo was known, Asanoyama likely not - likely it will be less again in the end, not more like last time. 53 sponsors in all, 9 new. Alone on the top in personal kensho is Takakeisho with 166, the 2 new ozeki follow with 60 for (local by name) Kirishima and 57 for Hoshoryu - I guess Asanoyama would have been no. 2. http://www.sanspo.com/article/20231110-RUTPJXMFRJP3FLWHCDBSGQRCCI/

Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) Akita pref. and local farming associations place kensho on the last bouts to promote new local Sakihokore brand rice o o Cheaper than TV commercials - and like the people from the hometown tax kensho for the musubi o o they think that there is a chance that NHK shows it on national TV Making the banner costs only about 70 000 yen (the Akita one about 80 000), the amount one kensho costs per day on the dohyo - 15 days minimum = a total of 1.05 million yen: total costs 1.12 million yen (1.13 for Akita). And they get the banner back after the basho, to use it for some other PR purpose. Edit: the new ones here are mostly for the last bout and will walk near the end - Toshin sangyo on Roga-Churanoumi https://sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2311_01.pdf Edited November 12, 2023 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 12, 2023 (edited) Nagatanien with 2 of their men out now puts the at first 2 each day on as usual Endo, since last basho Atamifuji and new Daieisho and Takakeisho. On day 1 also on the first bout, Kitanowaka-Nishikifuji. Moderna was on Abi-Gonoyama. The Akita rice kensho was visible on Abema, but as usual one can't expect to be shown on NHK (mostly Nagatanien is visible, who always come first). The new shakementai kensho is easy to spot, they had it on the Hoshoryu bout, not the last bout, walking last. The new food package kensho is also tomorrow on the Roga bout, seems he has a personal sponsor already. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 13, 2023 Moderna stays on Gonoyama (vs. Daieisho), The new MED kensho is not on the last bouts, but personal for Takakeisho, shakementai for Hoshoryu. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 15, 2023 A very meager pack for Hoshoryu, Meisei got the big pack of 27 today, Takayasu only 9 for the 2nd to last bout ozeki win. I wonder why Nagatanien dumped Atamifuji though he keeps winning and keeps being popular - they are content to have added Takakeisho and Daieiesho, who have much more attention this basho. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 17, 2023 After Atamifuji, Nagatanien after his first loss on day 4 also dumped Takakeisho for today and switched to the last bout, today Hoshoryu, however tomorrow he's back in the last bout - 5 days in a row Takakeisho was their guy, Atamifuji was it for 7 days in a row - and is back on the payroll tomorrow, but maybe not for long after today's loss. The other Terunofuji/Asanoyama replacement Daieisho gets dumped tomorrow for yesterday's loss to Kotonowaka - and likely won't get back after the 2nd one today - instead Kotonowaka gets 2. Endo is their proper man and will get his 2 also after 0-14. Moderna (who puts it on relatively young hopes) was on Hokuseiho (vs.Nishikigi), tomorrow they're back to Gonoyama (vs. Takakeisho), who had only 3 kensho from his ozeki win today (yesterday also only 5 were on the line) - the same amount as for his win on day 3 vs. Onosho, all from the same sponsor, but both have no fix kensho. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 18, 2023 (edited) Gonoyama with his meager 6 outside the top 13 in one go jumped to 4th place: 36 today (2nd biggest pack this basho after 38 day 1). Rairaitei Kyoto ramen puts 3 kensho each day on some bout of their liking with mostly not much other kensho, especially the 2nd bout of the day. Day 1 Shonannoumi-Midorifuji (+1 other kensho), 2 Tohakuryu-Nishikifuji, 3 Gonoyama-Onosho, day 4 the last bout though: Meisei-Takakeisho, 5 Nishikifuji-Tsurugisho, 6 Roga-Takarafuji (+1), 7 Hokuseiho-Midorifuji (+1), 8 Midorifuji-Myogiryu (+1) For tomorrow, Nagatanien stays on Atamifuji and drops the last bout: still Takakeisho, but against their man Asanoyama. It's again Abi's turn to have the Moderna kensho. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 19, 2023 (edited) Today made the return worth for Asanoyama, jump to 10th place. Kirishima with only half the numbers on his bouts as Takakeisho is closing in on him. Tomorrow Atamifuji gets dumped again by Nagatanien, but has the 3 from Rairaitei on his bout against Onosho. Moderna hopes for Takakeisho (vs. Nishikigi). Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 20, 2023 Tomorrow Rairairei on Nishikifuji-Kotoeko, Moderna on Gonoyama-Kotonowaka, 2 regulars. Atamifuji won yesterday and tomorrow is back on the payroll of Nagatanien. Kotonowaka lost too much and is removed. Daieisho has a Nagatanien chance again because he meets Asanoyama, but nothing can bring him back to their list now. Ichiyamamoto has not yet attracted any extra sponsors. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 22, 2023 Kotonowaka and Hoshoryu can still join the top 2 at above 100, the big question is where Atamifuji can still get - so far 2 or 3 a day since day 8, the last 2 days with again the Nagatanien 2pack: he's at 20 kensho now, followed by Asanoyama with 19. As expected, Kotonowaka is back on the Nagatanien list tomorrow. In past basho they increased the numbers in the end, but so far all 4 - 2 regular, 2 for results - stay at 2 kensho each. Moderna will be again on Ichiyamamoto - also against Nishikigi the chance is minute that he gets it. Raraitei once again on the last bout, this time with Hoshoryu and Atamifuji. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 23, 2023 Best pack ever for Atamifuji, who doubled his numbers. Tomorrow Nagatanien puts 2 on the last bout, with 2 ozeki out of contention. Moderna returns to Gonoyama, vs. Hokutofuji. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 24, 2023 (edited) Not much for Atamifuji today, but tomorrow again the biggest pack is in reach - could it be even the biggest of the basho for day 15? Asanoyama added 8 kensho and has 27 now. It doesn't look like anybody will join the top 2 at above 100. The torikumi were late and the kensho data are even more delayed. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 25, 2023 5 from Nagatanien on the last bout, 3 on Daieisho-Takakeisho, the 2 regulars stay on 2. Moderna was also on Takakeisho again, Rairaitei once more on Midorifuji, for Hoshoryu. Ichiyamamoto actually won the bout vs. Ryuden - with 5 kensho from staffing agency ENTry. Several more with 5 from Entry: Kotonowaka-Shonannoumi, Takayasu-Kinbozan, Asanoyama-Shodai - Asanoyama with a total of 14 back in the rankings. Tomorrow's torikumi are still without kensho, hopefully they'll add them later like last time. The winner of the final bout will finish top, the other bouts will likely be below 20, so nobody else gets the chance to reach 100, Hoshoryu and Kotonowaka can finish 3rd, Daieisho likely won't have enough in reach. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted November 26, 2023 There were enough on the other kore yori sanyaku bouts to get Hoshoryu above 100 and bring Kotonowaka close to it. Atamifuji had the chance to get to 100 with a win against Kirishima yesterday and then the final bout, but ends below 50. 5 from Nagatanien on the last bout, 5 on Kotonowaka-Atamifuji, the 2 regulars with 2. 2nd after Nagatanien is TamaHome, 5 on the last 2 bouts, 3 on Kotonowaka, 1 on the remaining 2 bouts with sanyaku. 3rd category after Nagatanien, TamaHome and also after others sometimes - 5 from Entry on their regular Shodai, vs. Takarafuji, else only single kensho by them: Ryuden-Tsurugisho, Gonoyama-Shonannoumi. dingo 1,473 Posted November 27, 2023 Thank you for posting the kensho list as always! I remember commenting last basho about being surprised why the yusho winner had less kensho than a 9 win ozeki. Sure enough the trend continued this basho. Takakeisho with an average result was leading the kensho top until the last bout and had a chance to finish on top if he had beaten Kirishima. The logic is the same but for me it's just curious to see how it results in hierarchy being rewarded. I guess the payout for the yusho comes next basho when the best ozeki has the most kensho chances.

I usually post the more or less full list after that (of those then in makuuchi).
