Amamaniac 2,092 Posted November 25, 2021 Three days are left. The question now is which wrestler will end up in third place in kensho earnings at the end of the Kyushu Tournament: Shodai, Endo, or Mitakeumi (might throw Abi in the mix with 13 up for grabs against Takakeisho tomorrow)? My bet is on Endo.

My bet is on Endo. As I said yesterday, the top 3 should be fix now. Endo has no really big pack left and Shodai has 2 very big packs remaining, I expect him to win one of them. Abi beating Terunofuji could endanger the position of Shodai, but that is a very remote possibility. Endo winning his remaining 2 is also quite unlikely IMO, he needs both and 2 losses by Shodai. Akinomaki 41,828 Posted November 27, 2021 Mitakeumi has the chance to get Shodai, their match-up has a really big pack on it, the winner will be no.3 Day 14 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2111_14.pdf 316: Terunofuji 141: Takakeisho 68: Shodai 58: Endo 50: Abi 49: Mitakeumi 27: Daieisho 26: Ura 24: Meisei 23: Takayasu

Amamaniac 2,092 Posted November 28, 2021 The bloody Pokemon banners were everywhere on Senshuraku! OMG, I may not be from the right generation, but I sort of wished I were playing Pokemon Go (whatever that is)!

In fact, you are probably in the right demographic for it compared to the other games aimed at kids, nostalgia or hardcore gamers. I'll take that as ... a compliment?
Akinomaki 41,828 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Since day 10 the top 10 remained the same set of rikishi Day 15 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2111_15.pdf 359: Terunofuji 141: Takakeisho 73: Mitakeumi 68: Shodai 67: Endo 50: Abi 35: Daieisho 32: Meisei 28: Takayasu 26: Ura Edited November 28, 2021 by Akinomaki

I counted 8 banners parading around the ring for the final-day bout between him and Onosho today. I checked the torikumi sheet that you so kindly provided a link to, and it lists 8 kensho prizes for that bout. Here's the problem. On day 14, Takayasu's kensho total was 23. 23 + 8 should equal 31. I haven't taken math since grade school, but ... Correct me if I'm wrong (and I frequently am).

Akinomaki 41,828 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) 1163 kensho in total this basho, 210 less than last basho. Pokemon kensho among that 6466, 2 each day till day 14 and 36 extra today. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20211128-SAWQV3Q2BZJDPASLQIE2Q2WCE4/ Edited November 28, 2021 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,828 Posted November 28, 2021 They could have placed Pokemon kensho on all 10 2nd half bouts, but they only placed them on the last 9. 4, 3, 5, 5, 4, 4, 4, 4, 3 + the 2 usual kensho - the pattern was according to game groups, regardless of who was in the bout, I had expected a bit more on the last bout.
Akinomaki 41,828 Posted December 7, 2021 (edited) The Pokemon corporation had ordered the kensho banners from the usual site and they posted pics of all of them during the basho http://tomac-kuramae.co.jp/prize/945/ Edited December 7, 2021 by Akinomaki

Either the writer in the first article was not precise and the 36 were the total for the day and not the added kensho, with the 2 usual ones included (but in fact 36 new banners appeared), or the new article did make the same miscalculation I did at first. Next basho more than 200, likely there will be new banners in addition to the 38 I posted above: there should be much more of individual pokemon. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20211210-GWXBEVLXZFKJDAWRT2HQAQ6P2Y/ Edited December 10, 2021 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,828 Posted December 31, 2021 Biggest earner in sumo this year is Terunofuji with 164.48 million yen from among other things 4 yusho and 1304 kensho, more than double the number of no.2 in earnings Takakeisho, who was top last year and got about 90 million yen less than Terunfuji this year. http://www.shikoku-np.co.jp/sports/local/article.aspx?id=20211231000100
