Kaminariyuki 519 Posted June 13, 2021 Here's an interesting question for you db masters. What's the longest closing winning streak by a retiring yokozuna? My guess would be that most retire when they start losing, injuries, etc. Kakuryu closed with 2 losses and Kisenosato 8 over three basho. Coerced intai for issues off the dohyo would not follow such a trend, of course, and we've seen one of those not so long ago. Harumafuji lost his final two matches, however, three including the fusen. This question came to me as I considered the possibility that we may have already seen the final Hakuho matches. And he won his last two before pulling out injured back in March. Of course, hopefully, he's healed/healing from the last surgery and ready to go for number 45... Randomitsuki 2,868 Posted June 13, 2021 (edited) Akebono won the yusho in his last active tournament, ending his career with 12 consecutive wins on the dohyo. In more ancient times, Yokozuna Tochigiyama did not lose in any of his last 16 bouts (between 1924 and 1925). I try not to be too nationalistic but I'd like to see one of my young countrymen up there on the clay.
