Kintamayama 45,543 Posted May 3, 2018 (edited) Hakuhou was looking good, facing Mitakeumi and Endou for 17 bouts, losing only one. Close combat, far away combat-the whole thing, showing great stability. He also lent his chest later to Endou, rolling him over countless times to the ground. "I think Endou needs congratulating on his first sanyaku appearance, so I decided to train with him," he explained. He was seen using a lot of leg trips. "Move by move according to what is happening helps me improve my sumo sense and helps me feel the dohyo with my soles," he added. Kisenosato, OTOH, not so much. Facing the sanyaku and higher, he was 3-5, going against the likes of Kakuryuu and Tochinoshin. Kakuryuu himself was 6-3, facing Kisenosato, Goueidou, Takayasu Tochinoshin and Endou. Tochinoshin faced some hiramaku rikishi as well and was 8-2, shoulder injury notwithstanding. Then he had 4 bouts against the top guys. He lost to Takayasu but beat Kisenosato twice, once by picking him up and marching him out, and also beat Kakuryuu once, reaching a grand total of 11-3. "I had only 4 bouts against the top guys. My body is in good condition and I am facing Natsu Basho with a strong feeling," he said later. The huge crowd was encouraging him. "I'm really happy about that. I knew deep inside that I had to gambarize," he summed. Takayasu did a few bouts and stopped, citing a shoulder injury. In a rare occurrence, Kakuryuu greeted the fans in the name of the rikishi. "Today, the fans lined up from early in the morning to watch us and I would like to thank them. This Natsu basho, we will try to meet everyone's expectations and gambarize with all our might!!" he said. Edited May 3, 2018 by Kintamayama 3
Kintamayama 45,543 Posted May 3, 2018 (edited) The crowd and some YDC members were not happy with Hakuhou's performance. He was slapping and grabbing and pulling and pushing and tripping and generally seemed a bit rough on Endou later to some fans , who responded accordingly with indifference. "I was wondering if this is OK.. He probably wanted to show the fans that he's doing his utmost so I really can't say much, but I'd like him to think about that.." said member Yamauchi. Supprising that was the case considering all the chuckels and even some light applause he genrated, kicking Endou around a little, as he was.

Even more surprising is that if you were actually there, you didn't give us all a a first-hand account of what you saw.
