Harumafuji 5th rikishi championships title

Harumafuji earned 500 000 Yen prize money for winning his 5th All Japan rikishi championships (the one written with different middle kanji), this year it was held for the 72nd time.
He thus surpassed Akebono and Futabayama, who both won it 4 times.
He won in the final against Kotoshogiku, who had beaten Hakuho in the qf, sf against Chiyotairyu, qf against Aoiyama.
Juryo was won by Azumaryu.

HF, who also won the title last year, won in the 1st round against Kaisei, then Tochinowaka. Now after Jakarta another out-of-basho yusho.

Kisenosato lost in the qf (3rd round) to Jokoryu.

I think the last time I saw a picture of Mutsuhokkai was when he retired to the sewanin position nearly 10 years ago - he sure hasn't lost much weight after his active days, has he.

This tournament was the end of this particular cycle of sumo at the Kokugikan, so the tamari-seki and masu-seki seating areas have been dismantled, the dohyo has been lowered beneath the floor and the tsuriyane has been raised up to the ceiling.
