Why do you need sansho for this game??

Why not?? To make it more fun.

In all games which have Sansho there is a Banzuke, KK and MK. One of the rules is that you have to finish KK in order to be eligible for a Sansho (See TTT game, for example). If you finish MK even if you are first in whatever the criteria is for the definite Sansho, you won't get it.

And for me the fun is each basho to finish KK and to climb up the ladder to Makuuchi, rather than to get a Sansho.

But it's just my opinion and everybody has a right of his/her own opinion.

I can compile a win/loss and a banzuke if people are interested. When did the game start? As I'd need to go back to the start to be fair to early participants

Edit: I cannot find previous 21 posts in the Games Forum, have they been moved/deleted?

Well for me it is possible to find previous 21 editions. As I've written before, the first edition of the game was held in Nagoya 2005 (on the German Sumo Forum, but I think the game moved here soon). The intent of its founder Takamueda was to have a pre-basho game with three possible options to choose from: A, B and (nowadays less/not important) X. Also he wanted to keep the game as simple as possible to play and administer, thus no banzuke and no sansho. Of course the KK/MK boundary was quite easy to find out: One correct pick equals one win. This works quite nicely regarding the current edition (having results ranging from 11-4 to 4-11), but as the bout picking changed since the old days and there are basically only two likely options to choose from now, results tend to be higher and 15+-points occur frequently.

Personally I don't think the game needs a banzuke or sansho. If anything I would (still) love to see more possible X-bouts again...

In the last 5 years, we have averaged 4.2 X matches per basho. In the last year, there have been 5.3 per basho.

Yes, obviously there will always be matches that somehow don't take place, but if most bouts to select from are matchups between say M5e and M5w there is no way of predicting them. Without having the exact stats for the last couple of years, I would say there was at best one match each basho to choose from that actually had a certain likelihood of not occurring (that is regardless of rikishi suddenly going kyujo or weird torikumi decisions).

That said, I seem to come back to that issue at least once a year and - as I'm still playing the game - obviously it is not meant to be a fundamental critique...

I can only see 3 pages of topics in the Games Forum. Am I doing something wrong? There should be more topics, - I can't even find the last 21 Basho in Nov12.
