NHK English Broadcast

Recommended Posts

Last basho (March 2004) in NHK Sumo Magazine, they featured the team of English broadcasters who cover the honbasho on BS TV and HiVision. I forgot to pick up a copy at my local news-stand...

Anyone have pics, interviews, or info on links where that could be found?

Cheers!

Again, no info - sorry. Gets to be a bit bitchy I find when listening to the TV though. Ever notice the same thing?

Was something on the SML a while back about this if that helps but I don't know if they list who will be doing what and when.

Welcome to the SF by the way. (Clapping wildly...) and if you make it to Tokyo and want a bit of a Ryogoku tour - let me know. Not perfect, but not bad.

Fat bastard - as Yoav-san said - nice avatar.

I cannot find the info and hence it might not exist. But I thought there was a shortwave live broadcast by NHK after their news finishes at 17:05 their time, covering fair portion of upper makuuchi matches(17:05-18:00). Anyone has info on this?

Hi,

Do you mean the guest broadcasters...? Like Doreen or Andy...? They sometimes seem to ignore the English hosts (usually the guys who do the English interpreting for the evening news) or take pains to contradict them. The regular hosts seem to be more the sports broadcaster types, and the guests seem to be more the culture vulture type. Except when they have an ex-rikishi, or an ambassador, or amazumo guy on as a guest. They usually liven it up a bit... (Laughing...)

Yes, I'd love to take a Ryogoku tour sometime. If I ever get up to Tokyo, I'll mail well in advance to see if you would be willing to help out... (Clapping wildly...)

Thank you for all the compliments about my avatar!
