Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 17, 2003 Kotonowaka won with a powerful kotenage against Asashoryu, the second kinboshi against the shin-yokozuna this basho. Asashoryu held his arm after the bout. The two Ozeki Kaio and Chiyotaikai had easy wins. Kotomitsukis bad form continues with a quick loss against Tochinonada, while Wakanosato looked fairly good in a close win against Kyokutenho. Dejima showed strong forward sumo against Tosanoumi. Akinoshima didn't look bad in his win today. Maku-jiri Tochinohana won his third in a row against Asasekiryu and is 3-6. In Juryo Tochisakae is now the sole leader at 8-1 after a strong bout against Otsukasa. Hamanishiki is one win behind with Asanowaka and Yotsukasa a further win back. -- Doitsuyama Makuuchi yusho arasoi One loss Two losses Three losses Four losses ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- Chiyotaikai Tamanoshima Asashoryu Wakanosato Tokitsuumi Kaio Kyokutenho Hokutoriki Dejima Tochinonada Takanonami Kotoryu Kyokushuzan Iwakiyama Miyabiyama Buyuzan Jumonji Day 9 J12e Tomikaze (4-5) yorikiri J11w Juzan (1-6-2) J13w Hidenokuni (3-6) oshidashi J10e Kitazakura (2-7) J9w Dewanofuji (4-5) tsukiotoshi J13e Kotonomine (4-5) J8w Wakatoba (5-4) kotenage J11e Kakizoe (5-4) J10w Harunoyama (5-4) yoritaoshi J5e Senshuyama (4-5) J4e Oginishiki (5-4) tsuridashi J7e Wakakosho (4-5) J3w Aogiyama (5-4) oshidashi J6w Hayateumi (5-4) J3e Asanowaka (6-3) hatakikomi J9e Hamanishiki (7-2) J8e Tochisakae (8-1) oshidashi J2w Otsukasa (4-5) J1w Yotsukasa (6-3) oshidashi J4w Ushiomaru (5-4) J1e Komahikari (3-6) sukuinage J6e Gokenzan (2-7) Makuuchi J2e Kobo (4-5) hatakikomi M14e Gojoro (4-5) M12w Akinoshima (3-6) yoritaoshi M11w Tamarikido (4-5) M11e Hokutoriki (7-2) oshidashi M14w Jumonji (6-3) M15e Tochinohana (3-6) oshitaoshi M10e Asasekiryu (3-6) M12e Kinkaiyama (3-6) kirikaeshi M9e Aminishiki (4-5) M13e Kasuganishiki (4-5) uwatenage M8w Takanotsuru (3-6) M7w Kyokushuzan (6-3) hikiotoshi M10w Buyuzan (6-3) M7e Kasugao (3-6) okuritaoshi M9w Miyabiyama (6-3) M8e Tokitsuumi (7-2) uwatenage M5w Kaiho (4-5) M4w Tamanoshima (7-2) hikiotoshi M6e Iwakiyama (5-4) M6w Toki (3-6) hatakikomi M4e Wakanoyama (2-7) M1e Takanonami (6-3) kotenage M2w Takamisakari (3-6) K1e Dejima (6-3) yorikiri K1w Tosanoumi (4-5) S2e Wakanosato (5-4) yorikiri M1w Kyokutenho (5-4) M2e Tochinonada (5-4) yorikiri S1w Kotomitsuki (2-7) O2e Chiyotaikai (8-1) tsukidashi M5e Kotoryu (5-4) O2w Kaio (6-3) uwatenage M3e Shimotori (3-6) M3w Kotonowaka (4-5) kotenage Y1w Asashoryu (6-3) Day 10 Makushita Ms14e Yotsuguruma (2-2) Ms16w Shigezakura (2-2) Ms12e Asahibenten (2-2) Ms13w Otoryu (2-2) Ms13e Ryuo (1-3) Ms9w Tochifudo (1-3) Ms10w Toyonoshima (0-4) Ms7w Wakainami (0-4) Ms6e Kotoiwakuni (3-1) Ms11w Torafusuyama (3-1) Juryo J12e Tomikaze (4-5) Ms5w Tanaka (4-1) Ms4w Uchida (4-1) J11w Juzan (1-6-2) J10e Kitazakura (2-7) J13e Kotonomine (4-5) J13w Hidenokuni (3-6) J8w Wakatoba (5-4) J6e Gokenzan (2-7) J9w Dewanofuji (4-5) J10w Harunoyama (5-4) J6w Hayateumi (5-4) J5e Senshuyama (4-5) J11e Kakizoe (5-4) J8e Tochisakae (8-1) J4w Ushiomaru (5-4) J9e Hamanishiki (7-2) J3w Aogiyama (5-4) J2e Kobo (4-5) J7e Wakakosho (4-5) J4e Oginishiki (5-4) J2w Otsukasa (4-5) J1e Komahikari (3-6) J3e Asanowaka (6-3) Makuuchi M14e Gojoro (4-5) M15e Tochinohana (3-6) J1w Yotsukasa (6-3) M12w Akinoshima (3-6) M10e Asasekiryu (3-6) M11e Hokutoriki (7-2) M9e Aminishiki (4-5) M13e Kasuganishiki (4-5) M11w Tamarikido (4-5) M8w Takanotsuru (3-6) M14w Jumonji (6-3) M7w Kyokushuzan (6-3) M6e Iwakiyama (5-4) M8e Tokitsuumi (7-2) M12e Kinkaiyama (3-6) M6w Toki (3-6) M5e Kotoryu (5-4) M9w Miyabiyama (6-3) M10w Buyuzan (6-3) M5w Kaiho (4-5) M4e Wakanoyama (2-7) M7e Kasugao (3-6) M2e Tochinonada (5-4) M3w Kotonowaka (4-5) K1e Dejima (6-3) M2w Takamisakari (3-6) M1w Kyokutenho (5-4) K1w Tosanoumi (4-5) M1e Takanonami (6-3) S1w Kotomitsuki (2-7) S2e Wakanosato (5-4) O2w Kaio (6-3) O2e Chiyotaikai (8-1) M3e Shimotori (3-6) Y1w Asashoryu (6-3) M4w Tamanoshima (7-2)

QttP 0 Posted March 17, 2003 Wakanosato against Kyokutenho was a great bout. Tenho would be dissapointed, as twice or thrice he had Sato on the edge already, but couldn't finish it. His stamina failed first. Chiyotaikai was Chiyotaikai again against Kotoryu. Kaio's face after his bout says it all: despite winning nicely, he's tired, he's not happy with his performance. Kotonowaka did the smart thing against Asashoryu: he locked him tight and took it slow. But then again, Kotonowaka does it every time. Only this time he did it well, and Shoryu was nearly optionless. When he tried his famous Sotogake, Mr. One Minute simply laid him down. Tomorrow's bout between Asashoryu and Tamanoshima should be quite interesting. Asashoryu seems to be struggling, and so I wouldn't try to predict the winner.
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted March 17, 2003 Kaio's face after his bout says it all: despite winning nicely, he's tired, he's not happy with his performance. Maybe so but it was gooooood to see Kaio using his right arm fully and showing preponderant strength in that uwatenage. Wakanosato against Kyokutenho was a great bout. Tenho would be dissapointed, as twice or thrice he had Sato on the edge already, but couldn't finish it. His stamina failed first Despite the loss Tenho continued his great performances as he was able to shake off Wakanosato's morozashi which is very difficult. Also that right handed throw attempt moved Waka with ease but he just couldn't flip him over or down and Waka regrouped to another morozashi which was too much for Tenho. In any case Tenho gets good grades again and Waka too gets credit for a good win for a change. Of other rikishi Kotomitsuki looks totally out of it. His approach seems to be "win at the tachi-ai or no chance". His elbows must weaken his yotsu in devastating degree. Tomorrow Nami the Elbow Doctor comes and treats one of them I am sure...... Manekineko 200 Posted March 17, 2003 My first news of Asashoryu's loss was when I checked Bench-sumo results, and I simply couldn't believe my eyes... You can ask my colleague at work, I thumped my head on the table from shock. (Getting kicked by ones own computer...) Lose to Kotonowaka! I do like Kotonowaka, but, but... (But, but...) I hope Shoryu goes on to finish the basho, tho'. Starting his yokozuna career with a kyujo would not be most propitious way. (Plain look...) Today was quite a slaughter of my favourites, I had horrible scores in most games (excepting UDH). But today is also st. Patrick's, an Irish holiday generally accepted in Croatia - everyone likes an excuse to drink huge quantities of beer! (Drinking beer...) Let me drown my sorrows... (Laughing...) Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted March 17, 2003 And today, of all days, I couldn't watch the live feed..... I've received only audio for two mornings in a row. Schucks! (Grr...) EDIT. Hmph... My own mistake. Everything's been running quite OK all the time... (Smiling dryly...)
