Day 14 results and day 15 pairings

Recommended Posts

Ozeki Kaio had a bout against Asashoryu which looked

similar to his bout against Chiyotaikai the day before.

He again skilfully deflected the charge of his opponent

sending him into emptiness and defenseless. I wouldn't

speak of any henka here.

Chiyotaikai took his time to defeat Miyabiyama after a

spirited tsuppari exchange, but in the end of the day the

Ozeki again is the sole leader of the yusho race. Asashoryu

still can change this with a win in the direct matchup,

but Kaio can only hope that Chiyotaikai loses to set up

a tomoe-sen for the yusho.

Dejima lost again, but he now is pretty sure to be Sekiwake

next basho due to Tosanoumi's loss against Kaiho. Tochinonada

won and with 9-5 he is in a very strong position for a

Komusubi promotion if he wins tomorrow against Kyokushuzan.

Takamisakari achieved kachi-koshi today with a STRONG win

over Sekiwake Wakanosato. He started 1-5 but the never

ending support of the spectators (and nine kensho today)

seems to motivate him to put in good efforts.

Kinkaiyama and Akinoshima both lost today, so they need a

win tomorrow plus some banzuke luck to stay in Makuuchi.

The leader jinx in Juryo continues as Aogiyama was the

only of three leaders with a win today. He is now the sole

leader ahead of five pursuers. His bout tomorrow should

be interesting as he is set up against Makuuchi Akinoshima.

Too bad I have to work tomorrow, so I cant see the live feed. Looks like it's gonna be really exiting. Especially if shoryu beats taikai, wich I really hope he does!

Shoryu's tachi-ai was stonewalled to Kaio who instantly tried to get right uwate. Shoryu alertly pulled his hips back in order to prevent the lethal grip. In the process he became vulnerable balance-wise and Kaio utilized the situation with a neat rapid kotenage-like yank. Not an entertaining bout but it had quality. Shoryu disagrees with that last statement I bet.

Chiyotaikai took his time to defeat Miyabiyama after a

spirited tsuppari exchange
