Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 22, 2003 Ozeki Kaio had a bout against Asashoryu which looked similar to his bout against Chiyotaikai the day before. He again skilfully deflected the charge of his opponent sending him into emptiness and defenseless. I wouldn't speak of any henka here. Chiyotaikai took his time to defeat Miyabiyama after a spirited tsuppari exchange, but in the end of the day the Ozeki again is the sole leader of the yusho race. Asashoryu still can change this with a win in the direct matchup, but Kaio can only hope that Chiyotaikai loses to set up a tomoe-sen for the yusho. Dejima lost again, but he now is pretty sure to be Sekiwake next basho due to Tosanoumi's loss against Kaiho. Tochinonada won and with 9-5 he is in a very strong position for a Komusubi promotion if he wins tomorrow against Kyokushuzan. Takamisakari achieved kachi-koshi today with a STRONG win over Sekiwake Wakanosato. He started 1-5 but the never ending support of the spectators (and nine kensho today) seems to motivate him to put in good efforts. Kinkaiyama and Akinoshima both lost today, so they need a win tomorrow plus some banzuke luck to stay in Makuuchi. The leader jinx in Juryo continues as Aogiyama was the only of three leaders with a win today. He is now the sole leader ahead of five pursuers. His bout tomorrow should be interesting as he is set up against Makuuchi Akinoshima. -- Doitsuyama Makuuchi yusho arasoi Three losses Four losses Five losses Six losses ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- Chiyotaikai Kaio Tochinonada Wakanosato Tosanoumi Asashoryu Kyokushuzan Dejima Takanonami Miyabiyama Kyokutenho Tamanoshima Hokutoriki Takamisakari Kaiho Gojoro Tokitsuumi Kasugao Jumonji Tamarikido Aminishiki Buyuzan Day 14 Juryo Ms1w Kokkai (5-2) sukuinage J13e Kotonomine (6-8) Ms5w Tanaka (5-2) oshidashi J10e Kitazakura (5-9) J9e Hamanishiki (9-5) tsukiotoshi J8e Tochisakae (9-5) J12e Tomikaze (6-8) yorikiri J6e Gokenzan (3-11) J6w Hayateumi (7-7) yorikiri J11w Juzan (1-11-2) J10w Harunoyama (7-7) yorikiri J5w Oikari (4-2-8) J3e Asanowaka (9-5) okuridashi J9w Dewanofuji (6-8) J3w Aogiyama (10-4) hikiotoshi J11e Kakizoe (9-5) J2e Kobo (7-7) uwatenage J8w Wakatoba (8-6) J13w Hidenokuni (5-9) yorikiri J1e Komahikari (4-10) J1w Yotsukasa (9-5) oshidashi J7e Wakakosho (7-7) Makuuchi M15e Tochinohana (5-9) yoritaoshi J5e Senshuyama (5-9) M13e Kasuganishiki (5-9) yorikiri J2w Otsukasa (8-6) J4w Ushiomaru (8-6) tsukiotoshi M12e Kinkaiyama (5-9) J4e Oginishiki (8-6) yorikiri M12w Akinoshima (5-9) M7e Kasugao (7-7) yorikiri M8w Takanotsuru (4-10) M14w Jumonji (9-5) yorikiri M6w Toki (4-10) M11w Tamarikido (8-6) yorikiri M5e Kotoryu (5-9) M14e Gojoro (9-5) hatakikomi M4e Wakanoyama (3-11) M10e Asasekiryu (5-9) kirikaeshi M3w Kotonowaka (6-8) M2e Tochinonada (9-5) sukuinage M10w Buyuzan (7-7) M9e Aminishiki (7-7) kakenage M1e Takanonami (7-7) M1w Kyokutenho (8-6) yorikiri M4w Tamanoshima (7-7) M11e Hokutoriki (9-5) tsukidashi K1e Dejima (8-6) M5w Kaiho (7-7) oshidashi K1w Tosanoumi (7-7) M7w Kyokushuzan (9-5) hatakikomi S1w Kotomitsuki (5-9) M2w Takamisakari (8-6) yorikiri S2e Wakanosato (8-6) O2e Chiyotaikai (11-3) hatakikomi M9w Miyabiyama (9-5) O2w Kaio (10-4) tsukiotoshi Y1w Asashoryu (10-4) Day 15 Makushita Ms17e Daishoma (2-4) Ms21w Shishio (2-4) Ms14e Yotsuguruma (4-2) Ms15w Hochiyama (4-2) Ms29e Wakanojo (1-5) Ms10w Toyonoshima (1-5) Ms20e Toshinyama (1-5) Ms7w Wakainami (1-5) Ms8e Nadatsukasa (2-2) Ms3w Hamanoshima (2-4) Juryo J12e Tomikaze (6-8) Ms2e Toyozakura (4-2) J10e Kitazakura (5-9) Ms6e Kotoiwakuni (4-2) J13w Hidenokuni (5-9) J9w Dewanofuji (6-8) J7e Wakakosho (7-7) J9e Hamanishiki (9-5) J8w Wakatoba (8-6) J6w Hayateumi (7-7) J13e Kotonomine (6-8) J5w Oikari (4-2-8) J5e Senshuyama (5-9) J6e Gokenzan (3-11) J4e Oginishiki (8-6) J4w Ushiomaru (8-6) J3e Asanowaka (9-5) J8e Tochisakae (9-5) J11e Kakizoe (9-5) J2w Otsukasa (8-6) J2e Kobo (7-7) J10w Harunoyama (7-7) J1e Komahikari (4-10) J11w Juzan (1-11-2) Makuuchi J3w Aogiyama (10-4) M12w Akinoshima (5-9) M12e Kinkaiyama (5-9) M13e Kasuganishiki (5-9) M11e Hokutoriki (9-5) M14e Gojoro (9-5) M10e Asasekiryu (5-9) J1w Yotsukasa (9-5) M9e Aminishiki (7-7) M10w Buyuzan (7-7) M7e Kasugao (7-7) M15e Tochinohana (5-9) M14w Jumonji (9-5) M5w Kaiho (7-7) M5e Kotoryu (5-9) M6w Toki (4-10) M4e Wakanoyama (3-11) M8w Takanotsuru (4-10) M11w Tamarikido (8-6) M3w Kotonowaka (6-8) M4w Tamanoshima (7-7) M2w Takamisakari (8-6) M2e Tochinonada (9-5) M7w Kyokushuzan (9-5) M1e Takanonami (7-7) M1w Kyokutenho (8-6) M9w Miyabiyama (9-5) K1w Tosanoumi (7-7) S2e Wakanosato (8-6) K1e Dejima (8-6) S1w Kotomitsuki (5-9) O2w Kaio (10-4) Y1w Asashoryu (10-4) O2e Chiyotaikai (11-3)
Naifuzan 1 Posted March 22, 2003 Too bad I have to work tomorrow, so I cant see the live feed. Looks like it's gonna be really exiting. Especially if shoryu beats taikai, wich I really hope he does!
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted March 22, 2003 Ozeki Kaio had a bout against Asashoryu which looked similar to his bout against Chiyotaikai the day before. He again skilfully deflected the charge of his opponent sending him into emptiness and defenseless. I wouldn't speak of any henka here. Shoryu's tachi-ai was stonewalled to Kaio who instantly tried to get right uwate. Shoryu alertly pulled his hips back in order to prevent the lethal grip. In the process he became vulnerable balance-wise and Kaio utilized the situation with a neat rapid kotenage-like yank. Not an entertaining bout but it had quality. Shoryu disagrees with that last statement I bet. Chiyotaikai took his time to defeat Miyabiyama after aspirited tsuppari exchange M
