Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted December 9, 2003 Only one question mark: Mitsuruyama J10E 1978 Kyushu 5-9 Should that be 5-10, 6-9 or 5-9-1? I have him as 5-10, as their was another source (not really sure?!?) But of course the second source could just be based on the first, you know... 5-10 or 5-9-1 are most likely anyway. I entered him as 5-10, so possibly that's the other source? Anyway, I had the 5-9 as only starting point anyway, and added a comment about that in my Excel file. I also tried to find a confirming source, but no luck yet...
Koldonowaka 1 Posted December 11, 2003 Well done, Kashunowaka! Incredible job. When I finally put my humble database up in the web it will look like insignificant compared to yours.
Kashunowaka 300 Posted December 15, 2003 Would be even better to cross reference to find cases where there is a banzuke where rikishi A is at XX and scores YY while rikishi B is at ZZ and scores QQ (you know, that whole precedence research thing) (Clapping wildly...) Anyways, one can dream... There is now a page at http://hakkeyoi.net/promo.cgi, called "Promotion search" in lack of a better name. (Beta, thread carefully...) The page lets you select two results (rank/wins), finds matching results and shows banzuke position in the following basho (you know, that whole precedence research thing). (Blinking...) I have also made an attempt at a "fuzzy search" ... At present only one kind of fuzzy search is implemented, namely with regard to wins. So if you select [M9W 8-7, M11W 9-6], the search will also try to find cases with [M9W 9-6, M11W 10-5] etc. (same win difference). There might be a "fuzzy ranks search" in the future. (Selecting [M9W 8-7, M11W 9-6] would also find [M9E 8-7, M11E 9-6], [M10E 8-7, M12E 9-6] etc.) Do you think it would be useful? Ideas, suggestions and bug reports are welcome, as always. (Applauding...)

Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted December 15, 2003 (edited) Your "fuzzy" searches are certainly useful IMHO, but they must be properly documented on the web page so the user isn't surprised by the results (Clapping wildly...) Asashosakari 20,213 Posted December 16, 2003 There is now a page at http://hakkeyoi.net/promo.cgi, called "Promotion search" in lack of a better name. (Clapping wildly...) For the ultimate in rank fuzziness, perhaps the form could require only the rank differential to be specified (in ranks, half-ranks, whatever works best), and perhaps a rank range for the higher-ranking one (so it could be limited to cases in the upper maegashira, for instance)... I also wouldn't mind the ability to specify a time range, although that's not a terribly urgent request.
