Kotooshu definitely gets my vote. :-)

He gets my vote for the most henka'd rikishi in the past few tournaments and one of the smallest henka-er to henka-ee ratios (pardon my grammatical frivolities). I'm sure the stats will confirm it.

The most henkaed? ...not only size but also lack of respect towards him contributes to your ratios.

He gets my vote for the most henka'd rikishi in the past few tournaments and one of the smallest henka-er to henka-ee ratios (pardon my grammatical frivolities). I'm sure the stats will confirm it.

The henka database can be found here by clicking on Kyushu Basho Henka Summary (the link is near the bottom of column 3). Kotooshu's personal record of nominations and henka in the Active Rikishi worksheet does show that he's not henka'd since last year's Natsu Basho, which was his only henka of the year. (BTW, blue fill means won/red means lost). But thanks to his 'wild ways' in 2007, he's still in 6th place among currently active guys since the study started in Nagoya '05. Maybe should be noted that he did have three nominations in 2008 not voted as henka.

Going to the Targets worksheet, you see that he has been the 4th most popular target, with his target percentage remaining pretty steady at just over 5%. Hokutoriki has a lock on the top spot there, but if Dejima can hang in there, he may catch up as he was hit on 12 times in '08, with Hokutoriki and Miyabiyama at 7 each, and Kotooshu with 5.

The columns on the Perpetrator and Target sheets can be re-sorted, if you desire.

So you can say that he's been on very good behavior lately and continues to be one of the top targets but not quite the top one. He does get some nominations because of his habit of reaching around to the side at the tachiai, but the voters don't necessarily see that as henka. Rikishi've been doing that for decades, including yokozuna and ozeki. I think most voters mostly go with how much actual contact takes place, or doesn't...but I can only speak for one of them. (In a state of confusion...)

Traffic for Buckton's magazine, primarily. Aside from that, I dunno, maybe they're useful for checking out what people see as a henka and what not.
