Kintamayama 47,171 Posted November 2, 2003 (edited) KaioU and Takamisakari were quite friendly on a radio talkshow. Putting their keiko-ba problems aside , they showed up before 2000 enthusiastic fans , mostly children and elderly folk. They answered fans' questions, beat some "mochi", shook hands- all this for about an hour to the delight of the locals. Most of the fans wanted to know if Sakari was OK, after getting on the wrong end of an "Asashouryuu Special". He answered that he was "so-so". When he was asked what his happiest moment in Sumo was, he answered that it was Nagoya-basho when he beat Asashouryuu, and was rewarded by a hearty round of applause. Local boy KaioU was encouraged to get his first local Yusho ever. "I feel great in Kyushu. I will be aiming for that yusho this basho. Ganbarimasu!!", he said reassuringly, yet boldly. Isenoumi-beya had their third annual chanko nabe - give- out thingy. After asa-geiko, Mawashi-clad Tosanoumi, Ooikari and other rikishi handed out boiling cups of chanko to fans and neighbors of their Fukuoka lodgings, as an act of goodwill and an attempt to further strengthen the ties with the locals. "There are many fans who eagerly await this annual meeting with us, so we will continue with it in the future as well," said Isenoumi Oyakata. Zeokage 0 Posted November 4, 2003 When he was asked what his happiest moment in Sumo was, he answered that it was Nagoya-basho when he beat Asashouryuu, and was rewarded by a hearty round of applause. I don't know if anyone saw it... (I need to check back through the forums to see if it was mentioned) but he said the exact same thing in August when he was in a game show with Tochiazuma. Then again... that would be most people's proudest moment in Sumo wouldn't it?
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 5, 2003 Then again... that would be most people's proudest moment in Sumo wouldn't it? No, it wouldn't, I'd say. What's a win in a single bout when you can win tournaments and wear tsunas?
QttP 0 Posted November 5, 2003 Then again... that would be most people's proudest moment in Sumo wouldn't it? No, it wouldn't, I'd say. What's a win in a single bout when you can win tournaments and wear tsunas? Most people, he said. Most people don't get to win tournaments, much less wear tsunas. So a kinboshi could well be the happiest moment for a great deal of rikishi. Especially when accompanied by the tremendous applause.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 5, 2003 Well, yes, you can put it that way as well, of course. Although for a great deal of rikishi (majority?), promotion to sandanme will probably be ultimately their proudest moment.

What's a win in a single bout when you can win tournaments and wear tsunas? So yokozuna Takamisakari, being the winner of so many tournaments, have a strange proudest moment in Ozumo, you mean? Manekineko 200 Posted November 5, 2003 Now you've made me imagine Takamisakari's yokozuna dohyo-iri... (Laughing...) Yurusanai! (I've been watching to much manga...)
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 5, 2003 So yokozuna Takamisakari, being the winner of so many tournaments, have a strange proudest moment in Ozumo, you mean? (Laughing...) Hey, it can happen unless he becomes too content in winning some isolated bouts against some 40 yusho winning yokozunas. Why be modest in aspirations when there's (in principle at least) the possibility to make the 40 yusho guy eat dirt every two months? All I mean is that picking up a single win out of your career as the highlight, is ultimately giving undeserved credit to the other guy and at the same time ridiculing indirectly your own successes. It's just this discrepancy that bugs me.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted November 5, 2003 (edited) Now you've made me imagine Takamisakari's yokozuna dohyo-iri... (Laughing...) Yurusanai! (I've been watching to much manga...) Hmmm, do you think Takamisakari would have to do the chest thumping and shoulder thrusting before (or, for that matter DURING) his dohyo-iri too, to pump himself up? :-/ Or, maybe he would throw in some of his trademark face and butt scratching in between the ceremony... I'm LMAO just thinking about it :-P (Laughing...) :-S Cheers Zenjimoto Edited November 5, 2003 by Zenjimoto
