Kintamayama 47,178 Posted October 12, 2003 Injured Musouyama is actively participating in the fall jungyo, since yesterday, for the first time since he fractured his left elbow. In the morning he only did his shiko stepping, but in the afternoon he beat Wakanosato with a right uwatenage. He stopped his opponent's right uwate try with his left and showed some good stuff, apparently. "Right now, I'm gradually getting back the feel and the spirit of the dohyo", he said, aiming to escape yet again from his kadoban status. Asashouryuu and Kyokushuuzan will call a temporary truce between them. On December 4th, they will be part of a special jungyo which will be broadcast in Mongolia. They will show some semblance of solidarity and friendship on this day only. This will be a first truce between them since the 'problems". The show will be held during the Miyashiro(Miyakonojou?) Jungyo. Miyashiro and Ulan Bator have a pact between them, and that day it will be exactly 4 years old. Kyokutenhou and Asasekiryuu will participate as well, and the Mongolians will be the center of the festivities. They will include a Sumo hair styling demonstration, Sumo against children, etc. All this will be broadcast to Mongolia, so the two will be on their best behavior lest people back home may see the strife etc. etc. The Sumo Mailing List has been thrown into turmoil lately by the arrival of a new member, who has caused people of that list to delve into linguistics and killfiles. In the alternate Bench Sumo world, a famous wrestler(oops) using a pseudonym has retired after a battle over the monopoly on humor. A woman wrestler (oops, there I go again..)was spotted using language inappropriate (continued on page 125)
Ryunokaze 0 Posted October 13, 2003 I think it is a moot point because it really doesn`t matter what terms you apply so long as the other parties understand what is being talked about and you are not being offensive, who cares? However,I think the word wrestle/wrestler fits in with western thinking on Sumo.It suits westerners because most do not know differently. I do know that most Japanese I try to talk with use Sumotori to describe a wrestler/rikishi and the word taisen(fight/battle) to describe the action that takes place on the dohyo.I normally hear wrestle/wrestlers when talking with fellow western gaijin. I do not think most people posting here really care. Just a brief thought.
Zentoryu 154 Posted October 13, 2003 The Sumo Mailing List has been thrown into turmoil lately by the arrival of a new member, You forget Moti, Mr. Dulka is, in his own words, "NOT A MEMBER OF THIS LIST!" Which is an odd way of thinking. I mean, if you're receiving mail from the list, that generally means you are a member of the list. Doesn't it? (Yes I'm being sarcastic) B-)
