What is the full list of Yusho prizes

Recommended Posts

Guest omus

Just joined this list.

Can some one list the prizes which were awarded at the Aki basho?

And which of them need to be returned for the next basho?

I've understood only tenno-shihai and the victory flag are returned. (Is there a term for that flag given to the makuuchi winner and displayed by his heyamate (or ichimonmate) in the victory parade?)

tenno-shihai
, Emperor's cup weighing 35 kg given to winner of makuuchi saiko yusho as a challenge trophy, donated by fresh Emperor Akihito in January 1927

Sansho prizes and whatever is given to the winners of lower divisions are for keeping, I believe.

Several people (most of whom are members here (Going kyujo...) ) list sansho prizes in their web pages. Here's for example Nekonishiki-zeki's sansho page.

UPDATE: Oh, I just noticed he hasn't updated the page yet. (In a state of confusion...)

So here are the September prize winners pasted from Doitsuyama-zeki's earlier post:

List of Yusho

Makuuchi: Asashoryu (4th)

Juryo: Takekaze

Makushita: Wakainami

Sandanme: Wakatoryu

Jonidan: Yuki

Jonokuchi: Fujimoto

List of Sansho

Shukun-sho: Wakanosato (4th)

Kanto-sho: Takamisakari (2nd), Kyokutenho (4th)

Gino-sho: Iwakiyama (1st)

Hm, there is this whole parade of trophies the Makuuchi winner gets. Definitely the Emperor's cup goes back in 2 months, I also tended to believe that the Prime Minister's Cup goes back... it's just SO HUGE, it seems hard to believe they would make a new one each time?

Maybe if I have time, I'll try to screen capture some of the trophies and post them here. Many of them actually are from foreign countries (France, Czech Rep., Mongolia, UAE)

Cheers

Z.

Yes, I forgot completely those cups coming from outside kyokai... (Sigh...)

How many are there? Prime Minister's Cup, Jacques Chirac Cup, cup from the local prefecture in bashos outside Tokyo (?), Ministry of Education's Cup (?)...

Yes, there are really numerous of them. There is a double page with drawings of most of them in "Grand Sumo Fully Illustrated" although that of course is somewhat dated. There are several local cups, when the basho is in Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagoya apart from those that come every time (EDIT: as you of course said in the post I quoted... :-)).

I also know there was a list on the SML maybe a year or two ago but without the archive search working I have been unable to find it. (Eh?)

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me. You can find the mentioned page here.

Many thanks for the link to http://130.149.112.57/GSFI/GSFI%20100-101%...onship%20II.jpg which showed the list of prizes.

Very substantial indeed. No wonder NHK could not show all of them in the final half hour of broadcast. (Sigh...)

Where does Asashoryu store all the trophies from his 4 yusho. May be he sell some of them for cash, or he keeps them in the heya?
