Black-outs

Recommended Posts

Why all the black-outs? Rhetorical question that was....

First in New York, Toronto, Cleveland etc.. Even an extra news flash came on Finnish TV when it happened. Then suddenly huge part of Helsinki (capital of Finland...you should know that!) goes into major black-out about 1.2 seconds after Finnish power grid network specialists, CEOs, lovers and technicians make a public guarantee that "This could never happen in Finland!". Well maybe it took some days after those assurances that the actual major black-out occurred. Embarrassed, same bunch of experts said in media something like "Ok...I guess it was possible...". Now 1-2 days ago London goes eletricless and photographers take pictures of people standing around in big congested places having an international confused look on their face and cellphone on their ears calling to their social network to communicate important matters and explaining delays and searching for information. So 3 big black.outs now of which Helsinki one has been undervalued in international media. As if Helsinki would be some small village! We have JORMA OLLILA there!!! Without electricity Jorma can't check his company's (Nokia) stock market price which is tragic and detrimental. Actually he has a laptop and batteries...

Once were there a major black-out in big classic concert so the whole hall went totally black (evening time in winter time so dark outside too) but the orchestra kept playing and the atmosphere, according to hearsay, was fabulous! When winter arrives in Finland and early evenings are already very dark I shall try music listening in total (as total as it can get) darkness lying on the floor just letting the music take over my entity and spread all over my body and mind! Problem is that what would be the best music for that? Evanescence is not bad btw. I have been told that it is not cool to admit that one likes a band that has just conquered every radion station with its hit song "Bring me back to life" but it is not cool to like sumo either according to masses so who cares (I am not worthy...) Evanescence isn't just a band with one good song. Life is life. I'd need some more complex music to utilize the scene of darkness and music listening though.

Hey now, let's not spoil this board with politics (Sign of disapproval)

The spiritual beggars site looks bad in IE too (Whistling...) I imagine their music is better though... Enigma is also good... And like you said, Evanescence rocks, especially song 4 on their Fallen album, "My Immortal"

Sorry, I thought that as we are off topic and mostly adults a little robust opinion(debate)wouldn`t make to many uneasy.I guess not and bow to the need for silence on some issues.I will try to keep my posts mostly politically sterile in the future.(I didn`t think I was being political, just stating facts I read in the paper).

I was trying to make the piont that there is always somebody worse off than your self, though. In this case Iraqies.

I retract any thing political so as not to cause offence. (Ranting...)

(I didn`t think I was being political, just stating facts I read in the paper).

The thing is, other people read different newspapers or other news sources with (in some cases) completely different facts being reported about, err, certain political situations and events. And once those different facts are being presented, things (i.e. threads) usually degenerate very quickly, because generally neither side will consider that their newspaper of choice might be biased. Didn`t your paper have Bush, now asking for U.N. intervention to fix up the mess in Iraq? Many sources did.

In this day of monopolistic media ownership only a fool could think that we are presented with objective reporting. We can`t even mention Iraq freely in this forum with out upsetting.

By the way, there is no need to be afraid. You can write, speak or think about Iraq with out being political.

What exactly do you mean by "degenerating"?Is it a number of people stating opposing views with passion or do you mean people being offencive?

This is a type of censorshop .If you don`t like a post pass it by.It happens all the time, normally, but expecting somebody not to use a polite voice on a particular issue is wrong in any place, especially if that place promotes free-speach.

However I am here to discuss Sumo and enjoy doing so. I do not intend to ruffle to many feathers. For that very reason if anybody would like to continue this discussion please P.M. me.

I think most have had enough, from all I can tell.

I do not mean to insult or offend anybody. That is far from my motives here.

Again,I am happy to defer. ;-)

We can`t even mention Iraq freely in this forum with out upsetting.

When the attack to Iraq was imminent, I (as Rijicho) specifically forbade any discussion about Iraq in this forum. That was admittedly a form of censorship done in order to protect this forum from internal quarrel.

Why discuss about politics on a sumo forum? The web is littered with forums dedicated to political discussions. Why not use them?

I'm not going to forbid you from attempting to start here a discussion about the situation in Iraq. I will urge others to refrain from participating in such a discussion. As the "owner" of this forum (in a very loose meaning of the word) I don't want to see discussion about sex, religion and politics on this forum; not even in the Off-Topic subforum. Paradoxically enough, is there anything in world which isn't somehow related to those three subjects? Hopefully sumo could be.

I'm probably just as much offended by the actions of a certain GWB as you are, but this is not the forum to discuss about them.
