Tony 16 Posted September 18, 2002 There is few days, a bout lasted 6 minutes ( 3 restarts ). Do you know who are the rikishi ? Thanks!
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted September 18, 2002 By restarts do you mean matta (failure to synchronize the tachiai) or mizu-iri (water break ordered by the jikan-gakari shimpan (timekeeper))? Usually a mizu-iri is ordered after about four minutes so a bout lasting six minutes would normally have only one mizu-iri. Did this happen this basho? In what division? (Edit: "There is" = "Il y a" ? So, this basho?)
Tony 16 Posted September 18, 2002 It was during this Aki basho and apparently in makuuchi. No restart but gyoji stopped the bout twice.
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted September 18, 2002 I think you mean a bout in Juryo one or two days ago. It escapes me right now which one it was (Senshuyama-Takanotsuru?). It was neither matta nor mizu-iri, but two subsequent tori-naoshi.
Tony 16 Posted September 18, 2002 I didn't see the bout, it's a French friend who saw it, and he don't know who are the rikishi.
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted September 18, 2002 It was Kitazakura-Takanotsuru. Don't remember now which day it was.

Hoshifransu 0 Posted September 18, 2002 I'm not sure but last year, Kotonowaka made an eleven minutes bout ! Against who ? Who do remember ? Am I wrong ? Was it less ? more ? Kotonowaka is a long bouts specialist ! :-)
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted September 18, 2002 I'm not sure but last year, Kotonowaka made an eleven minutes bout ! Against who ? Who do remember ? Am I wrong ? Was it less ? more ? Kotonowaka is a long bouts specialist Kotonowaka had a very long bout against Takatoriki last year but Kotomitsuki and Musoyama beat all records in their 10+ minutes bout including two mizu-iri and finally a rematch scheduled after next bout/two bouts. Musoyama looked VERY spent after the bout.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted September 18, 2002 Kotomitsuki and Musoyama beat all records in their 10+ minutes bout including two mizu-iri and finally a rematch scheduled after next bout/two bouts. Musoyama looked VERY spent after the bout. I'm not sure if that 6/Natsu/2001 bout is the longest of all times but anyway it was quite exceptional and the first bout in more than twenty years to last over two mizu-iri. Ken Coller has an excellent recollection about the bout in sadly discontinued sumoweb.com. I remember being most annoyed by Musoyama's loose mawashi which seemed to be in vogue in Musashigawa. Some time ago I half-seriously feared that Miyabiyama's mawashi will drop altogether one day. It was that loose. On the page linked above you see how Mickey pushes Muso backwards with his hands close to Muso's shoulder level while having both hands on the belt. Speaking of long Greco-Roman wrestling matches; in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm Estonian Martin Klein and Finn Alpo Asikainen wrestled for eleven hours and forty minutes. Finally Klein won and was put immediately against Swede Claes Johansson apparently for gold medal. Guess the result. :-) No one had prepared to this kind of situation. I can only guess what TV director would have done had there been TV at the time.
