Kintamayama 47,162 Posted July 21, 2003 The YDC has unanimously demanded Kitanoumi Rijichou be more strict with Asashouryuu."Strict leadership is demanded", was the exact reading. This of course , on the heels of the hansoku and related happenings of last Basho. Head of YDC, Mr. Ishibashi said," We'd like to see more strict treatment, the kind we haven't seen yet, given by all concerned". He would like the Yokozuna's "hinkaku (dignity) problem" to be addressed by all concerned in the Kyoukai. It is likely now that Asashouryuu will be summoned to the YDC to receive words of "caution and encouragement" (??). Rijichou himself was absent from the meeting, as he was attending the funeral of the deshi who died a few days ago. He was notified by Sadogatake Oyakata, who sat in for him, of these YDC demands. Asashouryuu is leaving for Mongolia tonight. "The Rijichou and I will do our best to show the leadership needed in this matter", said Takasago Oyakata." Asashouryuu is slated to perform (dohyo-iris, if I'm not mistaken, not actual bouts..) in the summer Jungyou. "I told him to travel after the Summer Jungyou but he has promised me to keep in shape while he is away,(took a personal trainer with him)and he also promised to do full keiko for Aki so he received permission to go at this time", he added. Seems to me Asa badly wanted to get away from it all, and may have had a few discussions over this with his Shishou...
Zenjimoto 40 Posted July 21, 2003 Sounds relatively mild to me... But, what measures could really be taken? Suspension for a basho? Or is forced retirement the only real option? I know there is no precedent, but whenever the word "punishment" comes up, I am a bit at a loss as to what that could possibly entail... not even a suspension would be real punishment, IMHO, cause it doesn't really hurt the Yokozuna's rank, like it would all others... Suspension without pay, perhaps? ... (Applauding...) Cheers Zenjimoto
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted July 21, 2003 I was just thinking the exact same thoughts, and could not have phrased them better than Zenjimoto-zeki (Bye, bye...) (Applauding...)

I think they are mostly irritated that Kitanoumi who since him becoming rijicho have used quite strong language in all kinds of issues have sounded so extremely lenient and understanding in the issue of Asashoryu. Personally I don't think Kitanoumi will change his position just because the YDC says so, and I also don't think he has any reason to.
Kintamayama 47,162 Posted July 21, 2003 (edited) Three additions: Rijichou's answer to the demands- something along the lines of "Oh, sure, if there is anything to be done, I shall take positive and firm action". Regarding Musashimaru, the YDC has heard that he is to be healthy for Aki and will participate, and they are waiting impatiently for his return. Regarding KaioU's tsunatori-Chairman Ishibashi says 12 wins is not a good starting point, and agrees fully with Kitanoumi Rijichou on this. http://www.nikkansports.com/ns/sports/sumo...30721-0030.html Edited July 21, 2003 by Kintamayama

This is what I usually say to my boss when he tells me to check something out. It's a classic safe, but noncommittal answer (Applauding...)
