Kintamayama 47,140 Posted June 12, 2003 (edited) ASASHOURYUU received the annual "Asian Hero" award given out by "Time" Magazine" Asia. He beat 29 other candidates (Yoko Ono, Matsui, and others...) to win the award. He said he would like to be a bridge between Mongolia and Japan. DEJIMA has begun rehabilitation on his injured right knee. He had surgery, and left hospital on the 10th. He has started light training and is looking to partipate in Nagoya. "It's going to take some time. I'm taking it slowly but Shirley. No use in hurrying things", he says. MUSASHIMARU is awaiting the final results of checkups concerning his injury. He has started some real keiko, doing 12 matches against Wakanoyama, Kakizoe and others yesterday. It's the first time he's met any Sekitori inside a circle since last November. He was using his injured left wrist a lot. He blew Kakizoe out of the ring, and it seems has not lost any of his awesome power of yore, it is reported. He has a month till Nagoya, and everyone is optimistic. "I still have some pain", he said, but it looks as if the injury has almost completely healed. At the hospital check-up, Musashigawa Oyakata said," The less the pain, the harder he train. I'm pretty sure that Nagoya will be a go". Musashimaru is finally on that steady road back to the dohyo. Dejimasama 0 Posted June 12, 2003 (Enjoying a beer...) Yay! All good news really. I hope Dejima makes a quick recovery but dont want to see him rush it and fight at such a lower level than he is capable of like last basho. Tons of heart but probably would have been wiser to of had the surgery earlier. Hmmm could this award signal a upswing in the publics awareness of Sumo? Certainly hope so. Honestly I love the fire Asashoryu brings to the Dohyo and cant wait to see how he does against Maru.
