  8. Does excluding fusen winning rikishi make sense? It may prevent "cheating", but you cannot expect players to change their picks in time after a kyujo is announced?

Let me point out, on the other hand, that you should delete the "at least" in your sentence. 2 out of 42 Makuuchi players were kosho (and that is in July, vacation time), if we were to treat kosho differently, exactly two mk players would gain a full and a half rank respectively. I really cannot see the big problem here and I even doubt the two affected players actually care about that.

So, if we have to expand sanyaku back to 9 or 10 players next time, would you suggest to promote all kosho players accordingly in order to allow them to keep their relative banzuke position? :) I think there are two things at stake here: a) Do we want a kosho system? We had that discussion a couple of times in the past and always decided to keep it in BS for good reasons. I would also strongly vote against treating a kosho as a 7-8 mk as it could have major implications on Ozeki runs or could lead to division demotions, especially as a 7-8 obviously not always equals a one rank-drop in BS with its dynamic banzuke principle. b) Do we stick to the general way of Ozumo banzuke making or do we try to invent an own approach that e.g. takes into consideration the relative banzuke position of players? Personally I like banzuke making to be kept as simple as possible. There are other approaches like Gurowake's math-based Roto Sumo system or the Sumo Tipspiel/Seki Oracle system with intra-division groups, but those are neither necessarily more fair nor less likely to invoke criticism and discussion at times (see the other thread...). Why not simply accept that there is bad banzuke luck as well as there is good banzuke luck and there will be plenty of both for you in the course of a BS career? :)
  12. Taking the opportunity: After exactly 13 years as a yokozuna it is definitely time for a restart... The last two years were rather difficult and I am glad for not being retired early. At least me and my fellow UDH yokozuna did better than all of our real yokozuna regarding the wins per year stat. :) I will be back at M16 next time - meantwhile thanks Tamanaogijima for running UDH all those years!

  17. Thanks - and congratulations on a well-deserved jun-yusho, Itachi! Not knowing the entries of the others actually increases the suspense. I am pretty surprised I was the only one to pick Karatsuumi (he is usually a great choice when ranked at around Sd50 or lower): he must have helped me win about 10 Sandanme Game yushos by now.. Though very unlikely, I am going to root for him making a surprise trip to Juryo!

Actually, I only looked at the results on senshuraku in order to see if my team eked out a kk (which it - barely - did). It must have been a really difficult basho, if a team with only 8 kk-rikishi is good enough to win the yusho, even without a tie-breaker...

  22. Thanks, Itachi, I did not expect to win this time. In fact, the winning score of 10.41 points is by far the lowest of all my 18th yusho. Must have been a really difficult basho for all Sandanme gamers!

  24. Similar record: Dewanohana had four consecutive promotions and four demotions between Hatsu 1986 and Haru 1987. And before anyone asks: The record for consecutive Makushita-Juryo pro-/demotions is held by Shinobuyama
  25. Obviously, "consecutive" is the important restriction in your query. In order for someone travelling back and forth between Makuuchi and Juryo for more than a year, you would not only need a very borderline-quality (and injury-free) rikishi, but also lots of banzuke luck. When it comes to Juryo<->Makuuchi elevator rikishi in general, the numbers of promotions/demotions are much higher.
