serv 0 Posted July 29, 2006 somehow I feel that Hakuho won't get the Yokozuna this year. Next year? yeah, I think he'll get promoted to the Yokozuna. Hakuho has shown somewhat weak sumo during Sep, Nov, and January bashos statically.
yamaneko 2 Posted July 29, 2006 Hakuho should never lose to anyone the way he has been going, except asashoryu. But, if tochiazuma and kotooshu come back healthy as ever next basho he will have his work cut out for him. Really, this was the basho to do it, with the other top ozeki (osh and azuma) nursing injuries. But he choked twice against lesser opponents. Next basho, it will be hard to beat a healthy asa, osh, and azuma, let alone not choke against the other guys. For miyabiyama, i too think this was the basho to do it in. Next one he will have trouble getting double digits.
ilovesumo 12 Posted July 31, 2006 NO and no. Thank god Hakuho got no promotion. I can tell you why I think so- he HAS to become Yokozuna by winning (I like the 2 Yusho "rule") Yusho with Asashoryu in competition. Otherwise he wouldn't be respected as a full Yokozuna I guess. (Me, as a gaijin fan, I want him to get his promotion in glory...) (Yes, yes I know what happened on Senshuraku) A promotion now would have been a kind of present. With a Yusho now, it would have been like one and a half Yusho and I guess he would have been promoted. For Miyabiyama- I am sad about it, but I hope he get a new kick and try again. Robbed? No. Some great Sekiwake never reached that goal. More fire please, and it will come.
Kintamayama 47,191 Posted July 31, 2006 Hakuhou will become Yokozuna sooner or later, probably sooner. Miyabiyama? I'm not objective. I think he should have been promoted, but.. I'm just worried he won't have the mental strength for another attempt.
ikishima 0 Posted July 31, 2006 I find it funny that most people think that Hakuho will likely get promoted at some point but that he had an unfavorable vote total. Miyabiyama had a favorable vote total but I haven't seen many people writing about how he will be a good ozeki. I voted yes and yes. 14-1 were great results back in March. Kintamayama 47,191 Posted July 31, 2006 I find it funny that most people think that Hakuho will likely get promoted at some point but that he had an unfavorable vote total. Maybe because most people think he will be Yokozuna at some point, but his record for Nagoya didn't merit it just yet. Miyabiyama had a favorable vote total but I haven't seen many people writing about how he will be a good ozeki. That's because Miyabiyama is not well liked around here, and regardless of how well he does, it will always be thought of as a fluke by many..
