Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted December 16, 2002 Do you mean the one often used by Kyokutenho? At least during the last basho? Anyone with Real Player installed can watch Tenho's bout against Musoyama* on day seven when he confronts Muso's charge with his forearm plowed under Muso's chin. Kaikitsune-zeki pointed that out to me (I understand next to nothing about sumo's athletic finesses) and I agreed with him it looks potentially dangerous to aite's teeth and not particularly sportsmanlike. Unfortunately I've never heard a specific term for that move. If there indeed exists one, I'd love to include it to our small sumo glossary. * Courtesy of Daler Carlson's Sumo Movies. (Aww...) Guest Manatsumai Posted December 17, 2002 Hello, Yes, Tenho made that "interesting little move". I used to think of it as a special technique of Wakanosato, but it
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted December 17, 2002 Wakanosato and Kyokutenho do use it sometimes. I don't recall seeing other rikishi resorting to that move. Are there others? It does have a major unsportsmanlike-stamp on it as it is a bit like lifting one's elbow high in hockey when someone is tackling you. Very despised move althought the difference is that in hockey such move results in penalty.
