Leonishiki 49 Posted October 9, 2002 Surely most of you have read this message in the sumo ML, but I wnat to repost it here because maybe somebody didn't read it the first time. :-P In the spanish sumo list we have made a new bulletin in PDF format for all the spanish speakers fans of sumo. We try to make something similar to Sumo World, but only in internet and totally free, of course. Thanks to all the people who post in the list all the news about sumo (something impossible to get here in Spain), because we could translate some of them for the bulletin. It was a hard work specially for Jose Luis Corral, the spanish eurosport speaker, who made the final PDF work) but we really enjoyed to do it. Well, we found that sometimes there are some blank spaces in some pages (because an article is too small or something similar) and we thought about to fill these spaces with some banners about sumo, not only for the spanish web pages but for the english and/or japanese too. That's why we would like to ask everyone to send us a banner of his/her own sumo page with the address to link this banner, to put it filling these blank spaces. It will be very helpful for us to finish some pages and it could be a free publicity for your sumo web page, isn't it? :-) If some of you are interested, please send me your banner (or anything you have to make publicity of your site) to leonishiki@usuarios.retecal.es or to leonishiki@terra.es and we'll include it in next issues of the spanish bulletin. Maybe not in the first, or maybe yes... you know, it will depend on the requirements of the bulletin. :-) And if you want to check the last issue, you can download it (almost 900 Kb) here: Spanish Sumo bulletin
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted October 9, 2002 By banners you probably mean regular 468*60 pixel banners? File size limitations? Formats? GIF? BMP? JPG? PNG? Everything goes? Nice idea, BTW! (Thumbs up...) I just downloaded your latest issue and browsed through it hastily. Very impressive! Very! I wish I knew Spanish. :-P
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted October 9, 2002 Great work! Can't read Spanish at all but the articles after Aki basho reports seemed to cover various interesting sumo-related topics. News from ozumo happenings and celebrity spottings etc. The value of such all-around publication to Spanish understanding sumofans is most likely a major one as it serves as a neat sumo news sum up especially if you guys intend to make one after every honbasho and hence create a continuous timeline till eternity or annihilation of the Earth. If you'd be interested in some heavy rikishi analysis or kimarite stuff I'd be happy to offer you some article every now and then (with discrete objectiveness of course)
Hoshifransu 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Great job and I would say, huge job too ! Congratulations ! Top quality ! And a lot of hard work of compilation and huge work to display all this ... For example, the dayly comments of each wrestlers during the basho with the standings day by day, for both division and at the end, the results for the six divisions ! Well, for the internet, this will be a blessed source ! For the Spanish fans, a good reason to like Sumo for a long time ! I liked so much the articles and the photos with tennis players and rikishi ... I didn't even imagine Martina Navratilova was a real Sumo fan and that she knew everybody and every shikona ! And to watch a picture with one of my idol, Musashimaru with one of my favourite and the most beautiful tennis player (for me) Serena Williams, that's a great picture ! I traduced a bit some very very interesting articles for the non-latinos people, though for me, the real problem remains the english language : Kokonoe Oyakata and Chiyotenzan A former rikishi and his father have claimed 5 millions Yens at Yamaguchi Regional Court to Kokonoe Oyakata and to Sekiwake Chiyotenzan for physical and psychological damages. According to the complaints, the ex-rikishi who arrived at the Kokonoe Beya in February of 1999 and ascended to Jonidan in 2000, just when he had to be Tsukebito (assistant) of Chiyotenzan. At that moment presumably he was shot with a compressed air gun in an attempt of robbery. Also he received a beating on the part of a fighter of Makushita that found out that he had directly been going to complain to the oyakata. Ex- rikishi affirms that he spoke with the oyakata and his wife, but the abuses continued. (...) The demand maintains: "they robbed the dream to him to become sekitori with the violent behavior of rikishis more veterans and the oyakata, that did not fulfill his mission to watch the conduct of rikishis and that did not know to respond suitably" Terao retires too ! Ex-Sekiwake Terao officially announced his retirement (...) He had announced retirement when he would go down to Makushita (...) Terao is the third son of ex-Izutsu Oyakata (former Sekiwake Tsurugamine) and began in Sumo at Nagoya Basho '79. With his brother Sakahoko (currently Izutsu Oyakata) they became the first brothers to compete together in Haru Basho '89. His statistics in Makuuchi (1378 fights for 93 basho) put him at the second rank about the total of disputed bouts, after Takamiyama. Promotion for a Gyoji to Sanyaku Nihon Sumo Kyokai announced on the past September, 26th that Makuuchi gyoji Kindayu Shikimori, of his real name Tadao Nakajima, 62 years (...) will be promoted to referee in Sanyaku, from Hatsu Basho 2003. Well, very interesting, and so so much work and all this, freely ! That's what we call passion ! Congratulations to the Spanish team ! And BTW, where could we play to your Ciber-Sumo Game ?
