Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 6, 2003 I was looking over some old records, and noticed that in 1981 Hatsu basho, Chiyonofuji (then Sekiwake) won the Yusho with 14-1 record, as well as his first shukun-sho and fifth gino-sho, giving him 3 of the possible 4 makuuchi awards (the one missing is of course the kanto-sho). Has any rikishi every won all four in one tournament? How about the 3 -sho awards but not the yusho?
Tony 16 Posted March 6, 2003 Kotomitsuki in Kyushu basho 2000 ( 13-2 ) won the three sansho, but not yusho. Takahanada won three sansho plus yusho in Hatsu basho 1992 ( 14-1 as maegashira 2 ).
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 6, 2003 Cool. Thank you, Tony-zeki! Both of these achievements are fairly recent (1992, 2000). Were these the first time this was done, or was it done earlier as well?
Feginowaka 53 Posted March 6, 2003 Dejima also won all three sansho. Don't remember the exact basho. January 1999?I think there is one more occassion. Possibly Hokutoumi (as Hoshi) in the early 80s, with 3 sansho and no yusho. Dejima not only won all 3 sansho, but also won the Yusho at Nagoya 1999! In the past 20 years I found 10 Basho, where the Yusho winner also took 2 sansho. In my statistics I didn't find the basho where Hoshi (Hokutoumi) should have won all 3 sansho. At least he won the Haru 1986 with 2 sansho.

Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted March 8, 2003 Ok, I said I'd produce a list, and tht I will. Granted though, it was quite a bit more common than I thought to get two sansho in one basho, although the once with three were the once mentioned above. Anyway, here is the list of all rikishi getting two or more sansho in one basho. Ever.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted March 8, 2003 :-D (Punk rocker...) (Punk rocker...) (Punk rocker...) Undoubtedly you'll add this table to your pages as well. One needs quite a good imagination to find an ozumo related statistic you don't already have a table about. (Thumbs up...)
