Kensho Aki 2025

Recommended Posts

As usual the most ever applied for, first time over 3000: 3108 kensho, most so far was 2955 for Hatsu.

Most individual Kenshin of course for Onosato, 344, then Kotozakura with 150 and unchanged high up Oshoma with 144. More individual kensho on Onosato than all on the last bouts together, which are 326.

I thought the Sanrio one was for the London basho.

Yes, but I thought they show their support for London at the basho, as next event after the basho - and mainly PR for Sanrio of course.

And the list is out now, the last 3 for Hoshoryu are Sanrio. If in the same design remains to be seen.

A personal sponsor for Onosato, Kanazawa based landscape gardening company Kitazoen - 11 of his 1596 kensho so far this year are from them, all from the Nagoya basho. They also placed kensho Nagoya last year and decided to place kensho also this basho (I haven't found them in the list though yet) - a Tsubata town kensho.

They like to put also kensho on same town Oshoumi and hope he'll make it to sanyaku in the future - but they didn't put one on his makuuchi bout tomorrow

- Oshoumi got (at least) one kensho last basho, in his first visit to makuuchi

Nagatanien lost 2 regulars, Endo demoted (and kyujo) and Takerufuji kyujo, only Atamifuji remains with the standard 3. The 2 yokozuna get 2 each, and on shonichi 2 extra bouts with 2: Hakuoho-Wakatakakage and on -Kusano. No extras for day 2. Tomorrow Takasu is in the house from the start of makuuchi (or earlier): his favorites Nishikigi and Hoshoryu get 5 each, on day 1 only Hoshoryu had 1. And the doctor has a new favorite: Aonishiki also gets 5 on his bout (vs. Atamifuji), which gives that bout as big a pack as on Kotozakura. The copy clinic Nishitan also puts 5 on Hoshoryu.

Good packs for Hoshoryu, he's not that far behind, and the top 3 are according to banzuke. I'll always add the Morinaga-sho later, day 1 needed no guess of course

Hmm, I thought the first day is setting a trend between the yokozuna but the second day Hoshoryu got almost as many kensho as Onosato on the first. Let's see who comes out on top.

The no.3 spot for Kotozakura isn't fix yet. If both stay in, no.1 and 2 should be the same the whole basho. Oshoma at last shows up.

Day 3 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_03.pdf

135:    Onosato
98:    Hoshoryu
35:    Kirishima
34:    Kotozakura
32:    Aonishiki (M)
29:    Ura
25:    Oshoma
17:    Roga
16:    Hakuoho
13:    Atamifuji

The Morinaga-sho is listed in the regular kensho watch page with the top 5 bouts, so I don't have to look for it in the videos https://nationalstadium-tours.com/?p=72876  - but have to wait - and hope it is not in the 6th most packed bout

Day 2 had the Takasu boost

Aonishiki

but day 4 the gap widens: the musubi-mae bout of Onosato has more than the musubi/concluding bout of Hoshoryu

Usually a sponsor has to place a kensho every day, but after day 1 I haven't seen the Sanrio kensho in the list - the miserable scan quality stops me from looking there in detail

Another  triple is for Ura, with the ChiiKawa manga Usagi character, uttering its typical "Urararara" - each day from Gray Parka Service Ltd, co., that sells the plush toys

The kinboshi enhanced biggest pack of the day for Hakuoho, kinboshi in a row usually are a Hoshoryu specialty, but no triple this time. The gap was wide enough for Onosato to stay in front though - the musubi had less than the musubi-mae.

Day 4 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_04.pdf

135:    Onosato
129:    Hoshoryu

Day 5 is a cheap day for Nagatanien with Atamifuji-Hoshoryu

Day 3 - the top 5 bouts site is not that reliable (or late), I had to check myself, after 2 days on Onosato, for the 2nd time the Morinaga-sho was on an Aonishiki bout

- he had his eyes on it and got it

Aonishiki only was in the best 5 bouts on the first 3 days, next time when he meets Hoshoryu, Oshoma or Wakatakakage. Kirishima was not high enough in the personal kensho rankings and Aonishiki himself apparently has no personal kensho yet - but he got the Morinaga-sho again today, 3rd time on his bout, just like Onosato, and just like the yokozuna he only got it twice.

Day 5 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_05.pdf

182:    Onosato
148:    Hoshoryu
67:    Kotozakura
49:    Hakuoho
42:    Kirishima
42:    Aonishiki (M)
39:    Ura
32:    Wakatakakage
29:    Hiradoumi
26:    Takanosho

Day 6 has a really quite bigger back for Onosato than for Hoshoryu in the last bout, 41 vs 35 on schedule, plus likely the Morinaga-sho. A loss by Onosato and a win by Hoshoryu would bring Hoshoryu to the top, but only by a margin of 1. Onosato has to wait 3 days before he can afford the next loss. Aonishiki can only get 4, 3 fix for Takayasu and a wandering kensho, a bout with winless Takayasu is not likely to attract the Morinaga-sho .

Day 4

the smaller last bout pack, but the yokozuna got it

46:    Aonishiki
42:    Kirishima
39:    Wakatakakage
35:    Oshoma
31:    Wakamotoharu
31:    Tamawashi

Day 7 Hoshoryu has not much more than Kotozakura, Onosato as much as all other sanyaku bouts together - and Aonishiki also against Wakatakakage not in the top 5 bouts, even Daieisho-Meisei has more. Nagatanien not added him, but Kotozakura to their group.

Onosato soon can afford 2 more losses and still stay in front. Oshoma may again drop out of the rankings, 4 in 3 out so far

Day 7 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_07.pdf

277:    Onosato
205:    Hoshoryu

55:    Aonishiki (M)
53:    Ura
42:    Kirishima
39:    Wakatakakage
36:    Oho
35:    Oshoma

Day 8 the 3 from Sanrio are back, but on Kotozakura now. All 3 Y/O have 5 from Tama Home, else only 1 on Kirishima-Wakamotoharu. Aonoshiki is down to 2, but even with sponsorless Tamawashi his bouts at least attract some. Nagatanien found a new favorite: Ura has 2 on his bout, which always has the Urararara triple kensho at the end of the parade - in the news pics nearly every day, so people look out for this parade - Nagatanien as always at the start. At last Hoshoryu has about the same number in his last bout as Onosato in the one before, one more on schedule, but Onosato-Hiradoumi will likely get the Morinaga-sho, on day 6 it was on Kotozakura-Hiradoumi, and Kotozakura only has Takayasu on nakabi.

Same number for the yokozuna = Morinaga-sho for Onosato, as expected. Kirishima is about to drop out of the rankings, if he goes on like this, also from his rank.

Day 8 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_08.pdf

314:    Onosato (M)
242:    Hoshoryu

57:    Aonishiki
53:    Ura
50:    Oshoma
42:    Oho
42:    Kirishima

Day 9 Onosato has no longer the double amount of Hoshoryu, Ura is not again on the Nagatanien list, it was only for the 6-1 meeting with Shodai on kensho generous day 8.

Day 7 - yokozuna packs - double and single

Kotozakura above 100, Onosato soon gets the gap above 100.

Day 9 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_09.pdf

355:    Onosato (M)
264:    Hoshoryu
102:    Kotozakura
81:    Hakuoho
61:    Oshoma
60:    Aonishiki
57:    Wakatakakage
55:    Kirishima
53:    Ura
52:    Oho

Day 10 the ozeki is again back on the Nagatanien list, vs. Kirishima - they have saved a lot this basho and put more kensho later in the basho, sponsorless Shodai with at the time same 7 wins Takanosho have 2 kensho on their bout thus. Aonishiki has 6 with Hakuoho. Hoshoryu really has more kensho in his last bout then.

Day 8 top pack, not more than Onosato with his +1 though

Mita gets the popularity votes, but he got no kensho for his makuuchi win, Fujiseiun had more luck, same 2nd bout with no fix kensho, but opponent Sadanoumi has one kensho fix. Oshoumi is in a different league: in the kensho connected heya with top Oshoma, 3 from one sponsor on his bout, and on top lucky to be in the first, with the Mochikichi kensho, plus Shishi has 1 fix kensho as well: 5 kensho for the makuuchi visit.

Both Kirishima and Wakatakakage are about to drop out of the rankings - and I guess one will lose his rank

Nobody below has enough kensho to push Kirishima and Wakatakakage out of the rankings, rather those close lost as well. Oshoma at last is where his personal kensho ranking puts him.

Day 11 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2509_11.pdf

435:    Onosato

76:    Oho
66:    Aonishiki
60:    Ura
57:    Wakatakakage
55:    Kirishima

Day 12 an insult for Hoshoryu: against Aonishiki in the last bout only 30, while Onosato vs. Kirishima has 37. Kotozakura still has the 2 (vs. in the run Takanosho),  but Shodai gets ignored by Nagatanien - and the NSK, only a bout with 2 kensho in all - and Ryuden.
