Kintamayama 47,226 Posted September 2 (edited) The Rikishi kai (gathering of all sekitori) was held at the Kokugikan today. Three newbies, Kyokukaiyuu, Asasuiryuu and Nishinoryuu introduced themselves for the first time. Following the old tradition of singing, Nishinoryuu started to sing Matsuyama Chiharu's "Koi" (Love). Due to time constraints (or maybe some other reason, musical?) he was immediately stopped. "It was over in an instant," said Nishinoryuu. Kyokukaiyuu commented, "The atmosphere is great, with all the rikishi gathered together." Three retired rikishi who will be holding their danpatsushiki, also spoke. Former Sekiwake Aoiyama will have his at the Kokugikan's main hall on September 7th. After the Aki basho, former Ozeki Takakeishou and former Sekiwake Myougiryuu will hold their ceremonies at the Kokugikan on October 4th and 5th, respectively. Prior to the meeting, health checkups were conducted at the Sumo Clinic for rikishi who had participated in the summer jungyo, with both Yokozuna Oonosato and Houshouryuu among those who underwent the checkups.
