Ex-rikishi arrested

Recommended Posts

Arrested for cannabis use: Ex-Amanoazuma - ex-rikishi, but never on the dohyo: no maezumo when he entered, then kyujo and then retired

He confessed to the charges, he had used it in mid April, an urinalysis showed he used it.

The law was changed last December to not only prosecute possession and selling, but also the use alone of cannabis.

1) His last name is Muniroglu.  Is he Mongolian?  He didn't look Japanese in the video.

2) The guy didn't go through Maezumo and never had a contested match.  To call him an ex-rikishi is stretching things, n'est-ce pas?

A forum guess then was a Turkish half - at least no foreigner, else he would not have been on the banzuke the next basho.

The news focus on him being an ex-rikishi: having been that even just for the shindeshi kensa is such an important thing, that it sticks - there you have the importance of dignity when being a rikishi  - and disgrace  on sumo when you do something like this

Yes, that makes more sense.  Googling that last name brings up Ece Muniroglu, a composer for US movies and TV; born in Istanbul, she has a B.Arch. from Istanbul Tech Univ. and a B.A. in Composing and Production from Berklee College of Music.  Three other people with that surname are also from Turkey.

The egregious smear on Ozumo is, I suppose, expected from certain corners, yes?
