Kintamayama 47,130 Posted July 26, 2004 Takasago Oyakata went to Kitanoumi Rijicho to apologize for Asashouryuu's drunken conduct from a few days ago. "He is seriously reflecting on his actions. I will not be taking any serious action against him this time. His behaviour was deplorable. If he repeats it, I'll make him quit Sumo and send him back to Mongolia. That is the extent of my feelings right now". Kitanoumi-Rijicho: "The Yokozuna should be getting ready for the next Basho as usual. I have heard he is deeply regretful of his actions, and I am fully confident the Oyakata will have things under control." It looks as though the NSK will not be issuing any sort of caution this time. Kintamayama 47,130 Posted July 26, 2004 (edited) Now, it seems there was some earlier tension between the two. On the same day of the outburst, Oyakata had a meeting with the TV people and Asa concerning Asa's wedding ceremony on August the 31st. Asa then said he would like to do a Yokozuna dohyo-iri at the wedding ceremony he plans to hold in Mongolia on August 19th. "He sprang this on me suddenly, which worried me. The heya would be in the middle of our training camp in Ibaraki. I can't let all my Sekitori go..", said Takasago Oyakata and vetoed the idea. This is said to have been the possible trigger for the present saga. Edited July 26, 2004 by Kintamayama
amgaa99 0 Posted July 26, 2004 Asa is man. I think, everyman drinks sometimes. For example, I and mongolian men drink once a week as a usual.
Chienoshima 0 Posted July 26, 2004 Here is a picture of Asashoryu, taken in Narita today (26 th of July), on his arrival in Japan from Mongolia. He seems to know already he is in big trouble, before attending the Hokkaido jungyo. Remember what happened before the hatsu basho this year : Absence of Fujinoshiki funeral, missing the first training and tsuna uchi without oyakata's permission. All of this external pressure made him clinched the yusho in great way. So, my guess is another clean zensho yusho for yusho in the next Aki basho. Regards, Chienoshima
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted July 26, 2004 That's too bad. I think Takasago-Oyakata has been fairly lenient in his treatment of some of Asashoryu's antics, and Asashoryu is losing a strong backup point if he keeps alienating his Oyakata.
