Kintamayama 47,140 Posted September 28, 2003 Musashimaru is planning to participate in Kyushu. He had a bout against Asashouryuu yesterday at Higonoumi's danpatsushiki, and lost by Yorikiri. "At this point, I can't move my body well, but it's important to bring my physical condition back to its peak," he said. In the morning, he goes on 5 kilometer walks. At noon, he independently does 200 teppo to rehabilitate his injured left wrist. Asashouryuu had his 23rd birthday yesterday. "We've both come from foreign lands. I would really like to see him doing his best and back in the ring", said Asa of Musa, anxiously anticipating the bout between them. Kitao, former Yokozuna Futahaguro (40), donned a mawashi for the first time in 16 years and took charge of keiko at Tatsunami beya yesterday. His official capacity is "Coordinating Advisor". He got the job at beginning of September and was present at keiko, but it was the first time he entered the dohyo, white mawashi and all, inaugurating the "Kitao dohjo".. He wore the robe that he used when he was Ozeki, that says "Kitao" on it. With white tabi (slippers), he wielded the bamboo stick, not looking inferior to when he was active. He had shortened his mawashi by a meter , but still weighs 145 kilos( 320 lbs.) It was the first time he entered a dohyo since his running away from the heya (as an active Yokozuna) on December 24th, 1987. He was at degeiko at Takasago on that day, with the then-Yokozuna Chiyonofuji and others. He was tutoring the rikishi today, especially helping Makushita Yusho winner Wakainami and the others with tips on footwork. He made them do some running and climbing up and down steps of a pedestrian bridge, then some shikos. "This is your level at the moment. Still, you're on the Banzuke. If you do these things, you will certainly go upwards", he said, trying to build their confidence. He didn't forget to thank Tatsunami Oyakata, who brought him in "from the cold" . "Well, I guess I like Sumo, " he said. On October 5th, he will be the guest commentator on the TBS broadcast of the one-day Sumo tournament in Nagoya. Then he will partake in the Aki Jungyo as well. Zuikakuyama 1 Posted September 28, 2003 It is really quite a shame that he left sumo at such an young age. He was just beginning to come into his own as a yokozuna when he was forced to retire by his oyakata. I thought that he could have posed a credible challenge to Chiyonofuji if he had continued to stay in. Instead, he is now consiered one of sumo's disgrace. But it was really not his fault that he was promoted despite not winning a yusho. It was all politics on the part of the YDC.

Kintamayama 47,140 Posted September 28, 2003 (edited) I'm not surprised by the loss at this point, but yorikiri? Whoa... When's the last time a healthy Musashimaru lost by yorikiri? Well, these matches are not serious, to say the least. I'll bet you that in Minatofuji's danpatsushiki today. Musa won by yorikiri. These are merely exhibition bouts, where the rikishi show their respect for a retiring rikishi by showing up. No one wants to get hurt unnecessarily..
