Kintamayama 47,162 Posted August 25, 2003 Musashimaru is still doubtful for Aki, says Oyakata. "If the pain remains, there is no use in trying to participate. He is doing light keiko, but he is far from the situation where he can manhandle his opponents by pushing them. We'll have to talk it over and see what will happen", he said. A decision will be made before the September 5th torikumi- making meeting. He is kyujo on and off for 5 bashos now. He did participate in the Summer Jungyo, and did do daily keiko with Sekitori, around 15 bouts a day. "He did use his injured hand, but he was not using it decisively, he was not going all out with it", he said, shedding light on the fact that the wrist is taking an awfully long time to heal. Musashimaru is in Hawaii now, and will return on the 27th. "Keiko starts on the 28th. We will gradually increase the number of his bouts", said Oyakata. He is of course hoping for participation, but says, again, that the only one who really knows what's going on is Musashimaru himself. http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/j...j_00020826.html http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/news/20030825ie21.htm Asashouryuu held a press conference today. He said he wants to do a lot of keiko and hopes to return to his "healthy" Sumo quickly. "I think I've lost some strength due to the injuries, but I am training with my personal trainer, and I'm getting better", he said. It was his first career kyujo. Takasago Oyakata is a bit worried. "It's not like he has a big body that can overcome these injuries easily. He has to be extra careful", he worried. With all the problems he has had lately, he is in dire need of a fresh start. "A lot has been said, but in the end, I will do what Oyakata instructs me", he said, translated very loosely by me. http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/j...j_00020816.html New Makuuchi and former College Yokozuna Kakizoe of Musashigawa held a press conference as well. "I'm not big, so I'll have to go all out and attack", he said. He came out of college and started as Makushita tsukedashi, but a severe knee injury had him hospitalized for three months. " I was impatient. There were days when I thought my Sumo dream was over", he said. It is exactly two years since his first appearance. "I took things day by day, and did my utmost, so I really don't feel it's a long time coming", he said. He knows that in Makuuchi, he will face a different calibre of opponents. "I'll have to be focused mentally. I have no choice but to go for the quick Sumo", he added. http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/j...j_00020818.html Ushiomaru will stay in Makuuchi. Since last Aki when he made his Makuuchi debut, he has been riddled with injuries. He wants to forget all that.. "If I will be around the 5 win mark in nakabi..", he mused and hoped.. He was injured on day 11 of Nagoya. "I was pretty sure I will remain in Makuuchi, so I'm not THAT surprised. I got two important wins on the last days that ultimately saved me , injuries notwithstanding", he said. "There is a big difference between staying and dropping down", he added. During the summer jungyo in Iwate, he felt weak and had a fever of 40. "Now I'm fine, and doing my best." He has increased his keiko as well. When asked about his lingering injuries - "I'm fine. The latest injuries weren't serious!, " he declared, reassuringly. http://www.shizushin.com/sptop/sptodayk02.html

Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted August 26, 2003 Takasago Oyakata is a bit worried. "It's not like he has a big body that can overcome these injuries easily I guess Takasago-oyakata disagree with most doctors, who say flexibility and agility are much more important factors in recovering from an injury, while big size/weight can be detrimental B-) Thanks for the translations! (Applauding...) Big size often allows rikishi to wrestle well despite injury. But I agree that it doesn't help to recover.
