Asashouryuu preparations-Haru 2007

Recommended Posts

Back in the day, one of our club's OBs has beaten him during a degeiko. That's one of our club's legends. (I am not worthy...)

(I am not worthy...) What's an OB ?

Old Boy.

That's how Japanese call it. There's also OG.

Sorry for going OT but what would be the correct English?

(Perhaps OY can teach me..)

It's just a widened usage of the English expression "Old Boy's Club". The meaning and usage have been expanded in Japan, while the word "club" has been dropped. Someone you went to school with or started work in your company with is called an "old boy" in Japan. In Petr's sumo club guys who have trained together for a long time or started in the club together may refer to each other as "old boys". Generally shorted to OB (Oh-be), which would explain Nish's initial confusion.

Asashouryuu went to Tokitsukaze beya for degeiko. He faced the likes of Tokitenkuu, Kakuryuu and Toyonoshima and was 19-0, having the most bouts in his 4 degeiko sessions this time around. "IDGK. I have been looking for my own weak spots as well. My side perhaps...", he said. In the middle, he was seen running for the toilet shouting "My stomach hurts!!". He didn't forget to study the new guys who are coming up, like Toyonoshima. During butsugari keiko, he called out fellow Mongolian Kakuryuu. "Don't hold back, you idiot!!" , he shouted, and threw him against the teppo pole. Couple that with his treating of Kotoshougiku, and it seems he is really serious and ready in mind and body for the upcoming basho. He has won the last three Haru Bashos, and seems to be riding this mood towards his 21st championship.

Thanks to Kintamayama for all the reports he is bringing to us.

However slowly I'm getting a feeling that the Yokozuna likes it to smash my favourite rikishi against the wall or the teppo poles, calling them idiot ... (Eh?) Haaaaaaaaa I'm not amused ;-), I could take this personal. ;-) He can be glad I am not around (Arguing...) ;-)

Since it was quoted by a Japanese newspaper, I'd go out on a short limb and say it was in Japanese.

It seems that the Yokozuna will be fast&furious this basho, throwing around rikishi like rag dolls... I just hope someone doesn't get hurt after improper landing in the first (second, third...) rows...
