Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 12, 2003 There's a great freeware application available called Eclipse Crossword which I used to create a small puzzle of sumo terms. As I'm still learning the application, my puzzle is probably not as polished as it could be but if you feel like relieving your post-basho symptoms, try it out. The puzzle requires your browser to support Java. It feels to me very straightforward and easy to use with built-in help and everything. I intend to learn how to create tighter puzzles than this but I'd say it's not entirely damnable for a first effort. (Enjoying a beer...)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted June 12, 2003 That was a lot of fun: thanks for assembling it, Kotoseiya-zeki! (Enjoying a beer...) The one question that drove me nuts was "opponent" (I won't reveal the answer because others might be doing the puzzle)... Finally I broke down and hit the "cheat" link (Laughing...) Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 12, 2003 (edited) The one question that drove me nuts was "opponent" (I won't reveal the answer because others might be doing the puzzle)... Finally I broke down and hit the "cheat" linkĀ (Enjoying a beer...) Would adversary been better choice of a word? I also forgot to mention one should ignore any hyphens and write possible two-word terms together. I will remember the next time... Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 12, 2003 (edited) These are (too?) easy to make. Here's a heya puzzle that should be quite hard as my clues are quite vague at times. If you know that eleven letter heya related to a historical yokozuna without looking it up, you either have an excellent memory or you should discuss about your sumo enthusiasm with a professional... Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted June 12, 2003 These are (too?) easy to make. Here's a heya puzzle that should be quite hard as my clues are quite vague at times. If you know that eleven letter heya related to a historical yokozuna without looking it up, you either have an excellent memory or you should discuss about your sumo enthusiasm with a professional... :-S Hehe. Hm. Is it serious you think... I mean with one letter free, maybe it's okay I managed to remember it... I don't have to go on a non-sumo diet for twenty years or so to cure my affliction? (Laughing...) Thanks for the great crosswords btw! (Enjoying a beer...)
Chiyozakura 163 Posted June 12, 2003 (edited) Great idea to make this crossword! Not only didn't I know XXXXXXXXXXXXX but also XXXXXXXXXX did not come to my mind. I guess I have to work through the Yobidashi and Gyoji lists... (Heya names censored by rijicho. (Bleh!) ) Edited June 12, 2003 by Rijicho
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 12, 2003 (edited) I don't have to go on a non-sumo diet for twenty years or so to cure my affliction? (Enjoying a beer...) If you do solve this one by memory alone, it's serious enough... (Laughing...) Again, ignore hyphens and spaces! Chiyozakura 163 Posted June 12, 2003 Stupid me! Sorry for writing the correct answers...I didn't remember the name of the Yokozuna so I wrote the heya name that was still on my screen (Enjoying a beer...) Well...

Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted June 13, 2003 (edited) Eclipse crosswords IS fun to play with.... Here is a Yokozuna crossword. I think it's rather difficult, but some of you might make it anyway without cheating (yes, that's YOU rijicho :-D ). Note however that Yokozuna whose shikona was used more than once by yokozunas have numbers after their shikona... Please inform me of mistakes I undoubtedly made... http://w1.858.telia.com/~u85811045/Yzcrossword.html Good luck (Sign of approval) Welcome to Haridashiagare btw, Kotoseiya. We'll kick butt in Nagoya :-P Edited June 13, 2003 by Yubiquitoyama
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted June 13, 2003 I've just finished Yubiquitoyama-zeki's yokozuna crossword: what fun. Thank you! Unfortunately I only knew about 60% of the answers. At least half of those I knew from previous discussions on this forum. I have a new theory now on the whole koshi thing: Kitanoumi rijicho wants to make it more difficult for ozeki to make yokozuna, so that they have less of a chance at taking his record of being youngest yokozuna! :-P :-D Just kidding... Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 13, 2003 (...) some of you might make it anyway without cheating (yes, that's YOU rijicho :-P No, that's not me :-( . I got first 19 correct out of 22 answers. Two of my answers had an incorrect number and a yama I had as a gawa. Then I had to open a yokozuna list. It helped me to get all but four correctly entered by just reading the names and trying to remember the anecdotes. Finally I had to cheat a couple names so I definitely have more to study still. :-D Excellent puzzle! (Licking lips...)
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted June 14, 2003 Very nice crosswords! Yokozuna, sumoterms covered, next one should be kimarite and rikishi's techniques :-D
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 14, 2003 I just noticed there's a grammatical mistake in my first puzzle. A four letter word's first letter should be F instead of B, of course... ("Four hanging knots over dohyo") :-D I need to be more punctual.
