We don't, they just factor it into their decisions. Mita was leader too but isn't getting one.

There is a bias towards guys who are hot in the first half and were in or leading the yusho race entering the last stage, rather than guys who started rougher and came on at the end. He was the outright leader entering day 12, tied for the lead going into day 13.

Onosato has now won sansho is all 3 of his makuuchi basho. Anyone ever put up a longer streak from debut in the top division?
-
Maybe for beating the leader and KK as a high maegashira? He didn't end up getting it though.................announcement just made: Gino-sho: Onosato Kanto-sho: Shonannoumi (conditional on winning last), Oshoma (conditional on winning last) Shukun-sho: Onosato, Abi, or Daieisho if they win the yusho
-
I have the opposite view on Onosato. With explosive power and an aggressive style his matches are some of my most anticipated.
-
The last thing I want is Abi spoiling another yusho for one of my favourites

Baraki, man of few cm, must be retiring - greeted with flowers after winning to get his KK.

Are you Chris Sumo? I must admit I don't understand your post. Artificially pushed as in being ranked too high relative to their results? Artificially pushed as in using performance enhancers? Anyone in mind? Being kept back as in not being promoted as high as their performance merits? Being treated unfairly by gyoji/shimpan? Not afforded the same training opportunities?

Interesting. Looking over their opposition, they stepped Onosato up much higher in opposition than they did Onosho and Terukuni. Onosato faced 9 sanyaku his first 2 basho; only 2 for Onosho and 4 for Terukuni.

At this rate I'll make maezumo in no time

Hyped for Kusano-Aonishiki tonight Aonishiki's been so smooth and quick to capitalize on openings. Kusano a powerful all-rounder. At this stage Kusano might be a bit too strong still, but we'll see.

Baruto was 54-6, with 3 yusho in 4 basho on the dohyo at juryo, including a 15-0. I did have the thought the other day that some years from now Endo could be 103 years old, in a nursing home, and unable to stand on his own, but if carried onto a dohyo would still put up at least 10 wins in juryo.
-
Not that I know of. Aonishiki didn't compete much in Japan and they are three years apart.

Enho, Raiho, Kiho, Tenshoho, Matsui, Hakuoho.........pretty sure they're legit injury cases. Even considering that some of the absences may be unrelated to injury, that's quite a lot of hurt for one heya (former heya I guess).

So many hurt ex-Miyagino guys

His skills are nice but I really hope he has a major growth spurt.

Hokuseiho Out- Hakuho Demoted - Miyagino-beya Closing

I hope he gets a spot somewhere. That's what, 3 or 4 years he's put in now, and by many accounts is already performing at a sekitori level in training. -
Individual winner is Takushoku's Masaharu Goshima, a 176cm/170kg bulldozer who made easy work of most opponents with his powerful forward moving sumo. His match in the finals wasn't so easy though, as he overcome a strong effort from towering Toyo Mongolian Ogtonbat. 3rd place goes to Kanazawa Gakuin's Yasuhiro Omori, who beat NSSU's Christopher Lee in the match of losing semifinalists - Omori had lost to Goshima, Lee to Ogtonbat. Nihon's Masaki Hanaoka, who won several titles last year, lost his first match in the individuals, while last year's All Japan Championship 2nd place Bucheroon (NSSU) lost in the best 8 to Goshima. Bucheroon otherwise won all his matches, including beating Ogtonbat and Omori in the teams, and looked on form. The team championship went to Toyo University, which downed NSSU 4-1 in the finals. Nihon defeated Kinki U in the battle for 3rd. As the first competition of the year, it's interesting to see who is featuring in the starting lineup for the first time - many new faces.

5th graders also outsmarted Hakuyozan on the question: Once the match is over, should you give your opponent a big shove off the dohyo anyway? -
Nishonoseki & Onosato Given Stern Reprimand by NSK for Allowing Underage Drinking
Katooshu replied to Kaninoyama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Hearing whispers from the Daily Shincho? Or elsewhere (and are those based on the Daily Shincho article)? The DS article that is going around is based on a story a koenkai member says they were told by an unnamed source and sounds pretty bizarre......it could be true but I am very skeptical. At minimum a lot of details can get altered passing from one person to another to another. -

This happened in September, so unlikely to involve them.
