  1. This video shows Kisenosato's parents in the audience on senshuraku at the Hatsu Basho in 2017. See them at 2:00, 6:43 and 7:24. Kisenosato defeated Hakuho and was promoted to Yokozuna.
  2. Here's a video showing Takayasu's mother and father in the audience (at the beginning of the video). At 6:30 after Takayasu has defeated Harumafuji, and Takayasu's promotion to Ozeki is assured, you can see his mother's tears of joy. Regarding "comped" tickets, all I know for sure is that Hakuho is given a lot of free tickets that he hands out to family and friends. I have a mutual friend who got a ticket from one of Hakuho's sisters.
  3. Takayasu's mother, who has always been an enthusiastic supporter of her son, has attended more than one basho. I can still remember her jumping up and down in the audience. Kisenosato's parents were in attendance on senshuraku during a basho when he won the yusho. In a very old video, I recall seeing Hakuho's wife and child or children in the audience. Often the yusho winner's wife or wife & children are in the backstage area. I recall seeing Hakuho's wife and 4 children and Kakuryu's wife and 2 children on occasion.
  4. I, too, liked the name. However, it was a little jarring to me to see "Hakuho reacted to this". Haha! I did have to remind myself a couple of times that the real Hakuho was NOT A MEMBER OF SUMO FORUM!!!!
  5. I'm sorry to see you go, especially so soon! Is there any room for compromise, like calling yourself HakuhoFan or Hakuhoyama or another name that incorporates Hakuho but with something added so there's no confusion between you and the real Hakuho?
  6. My browser won't let me watch this. It was uploaded by the same person that uploaded the previous footage (see above post). It looks interesting!
  7. Here's some fascinating footage from the 1940s. Part of it features Azumafuji, the 40th Yokozuna (Oct 28, 1921- July 31, 1973). It consists of lots of training, both indoors and outdoors in front of the general public.
  8. Here's a compilation video which includes Tamawashi in his kitchen making Gyoza!
  9. Here's a video showing Tamawashi's Jan 2019 Yusho ceremony. It starts at 1:50. During his Championship interview, it was announced that his wife gave birth that same day to their second child!!
  10. Here is a short video for your enjoyment! (I like Tamawashi, too! Seems like a friendly guy). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAQUtEQLwTo
  11. Since this is just a film that was shot in a studio mocked up to look like a Japanese scene, those sashes undoubtedly have no meaning in the real world. In the film, they might even have had the wrestler's name on them!
  12. https://www.huntleyarchives.com/results.asp?txtkeys1=sumo You are correct about those silent films from the 1900's!! At the very top of these videos, a website is listed (www.huntleyarchives.com). I Googled it & came up with the above (see link). I did a search for "sumo" and got 15 responses. These films were filmed in a studio mocked up to appear like a Japanese scene. The Youtube videos that I posted are not on the list of 15, so I did a search on the site using one of the film #'s which was # 665. This film came up as a special order. The company scans it to order and there's a "technical fee" that starts at GBP250.00. In the synopsis, the wrestling is described as "sumo style".
  13. This is supposedly an updated video of the Takanohana vs Akebono bouts. It was recently uploaded. Parts 1 & 2 above were uploaded 7 years ago. (I don't know what the differences might be).
  14. From a great new Youtube channel "Best of Sumo".
  15. Great video of Takanohana vs Akebono bouts.
  16. Here is a great video posted 2 months ago of all of Takanohana vs Asashoryu's bouts.
  17. Here's a great new video that was posted just a month ago. It shows all of the bouts of Hakuho & Asashoryu. Excellent!
  18. I don't know if this video of Hakuho playing basketball has been posted before. Wikipedia says that as a child, Hakuho had no training in Mongolian wrestling as his father wanted him to try other sports. He concentrated on basketball, although from a young age he liked to read sumo magazines. He told his father he wanted one day to be as big as a sumo wrestler.
  19. Here is the trailer for a new film from an Indian (South Asian) production company. It was filmed in 2019 in India and Japan. (They are speaking rapid-fire Tamil, the dominant language of southern India). I don't think the film has been released yet. One of the stars in the film is a retired rikishi named Yoshinori Tashiro. I researched him and he was indeed a pro. His Shikona was Tooyama and he reached upper Makushita before retiring. The premise is hilarious. A sumo wrestler washes up on a beach in southern India and is found and saved. He seems to spend all of his time eating. Ultimately, the Indians decide to take him back to Japan so he can return to the ring. However, he is so out of shape that he has to work extra hard to regain his form. An overhead shot of the Kokugikan leads to scenes of him climbing into the ring and defeating his opponent. The "arena" scenes seem fake and the wrestling scenes look like composites, but it's still entertaining. (When I first looked at the thumbnail picture, the rikishi looked like Kotoshogiku!!! lol)
  20. If I find a copy of Wajima's record album from 1978, would you be interested?
  21. Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) Yokozuna Hakuhou has recorded a single with Japanese singer Kae and it will drop on February 24th. It's the first time that an active Yokozuna records music since Wajima recorded an album back in 1978. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found it!! (The above information about Wajima recording an album was posted by Kintamayama)..
  22. I'm trying to find verification for this, and I was about to see if I could find something about it in the SF archives but I haven't looked yet. There are other Wajima recording artists but somewhere several years ago, I believe I read that his music album was ill concieved, and then later, I'm pretty sure I saw it on ebay. I know someone who is a big fan of Wajima (she's been a fan of sumo for 50 years!!). I'll ask her!
  23. Didn't Wajima also put out a music album? I recall seeing one on ebay several years ago.
  24. I recall times when a Makuuchi bout had to be stopped once to have a mawashi tightened but never more than once in the same bout since the one in Jan 2014. I would be interested in seeing a link.
