Day 8 Ikioi, holding on to 7 consecutive wins after the initial loss, with a complacent smile: "Whether winning or losing, I'm just giving it my all. However, the result that's coming out of this is good." 勢　７連勝で１敗を堅持。「勝っても負けても一生懸命やるだけ。でも、結果が出ているのはいい」とにんまり。 Endou, not up to the task against Kisenosato and third consecutive loss: "As loss is a loss. (Towards the bout against Hakuhou on day 9) I will go out with renewed spirit and gambarize." 遠藤　稀勢の里に及ばず３連敗。「負けは負け。（９日目の白鵬戦へ）切り替えて頑張ります」 Kyokutenhou, from the first day 8 consecutive losses, merely complaining with a bitter smile: "I forgot about the win pattern. When going make-koshi, I feel like my body withered too." 旭天鵬　初日から８連敗。「勝ちパターンを忘れた。負け込むと、体もしぼんだ感じがする」。苦笑いで弱音ばかりが。 Takekaze, defeating Kotoshougiku, calmly looking back: "When getting inside it's the match, so that did the job. Day 6 Toyonoshima, from Harumafuji for the second time, and in total for the third time getting a kinboshi. Being asked about that cleverness (not sure, 味 usually means something like taste/flavour): "I didn't do anything clever, but I was absorbed in it." 豊ノ島　日馬富士から２個目で、計３個目の金星。その味は、と聞かれ「味はしないけど、無我夢中だった」。 Kyokutenhou, 39 years and 8 months. Updating his record from 4 months ago as the oldest in the post-war era to participate in the musubi (last bout of the day); on the 7th day also in the musubi against Hakuhou: "Independent of winning or losing it's an honour, but when you lose you feel down." 旭天鵬　３９歳８カ月。自身の戦後最年長記録を４カ月更新して結びを務め、７日目も結びの白鵬戦。「勝敗関係なしなら名誉だが、負けると落ち込む」 Kotoshougiku, third consecutive win against Endou: "He can't rise (on the banzuke) that easily. How much difficulty did we have ourselves...?" 琴奨菊　遠藤戦は３連勝。「そう簡単には（番付は）上がれないよ。どれだけ自分たちが苦労したか」 Hakuhou, the only person with 6 wins from the start. His turn immediately after seeing Harumafuji giving away a kinboshi, but: "In the musubi it was Kakuryuu participating, (in part due to that) my body was able to move." 白鵬　ただ一人初日から６連勝。日馬富士の金星配給を見た直後でも「結びは鶴竜関がいるし、体が動いてくれた」。 EDIT: I won't be around for this tomorrow, and Sunday will probably be late, if at all.

Day 5 Aminishiki, not getting his 5th straight win. After asa-geiko (morning training) having emphasized not being greedy, but with reconsideration: "The spirit of taking him on had (unintentionally) left" emphasizing that he couldn't care less (about the winning streak at stake), but: "Suddenly (inadvertently) the feeling of going for it overcame me." 安美錦　５連勝ならず。朝稽古後は無欲を強調していたが、「やってやろうって気持ちが出ちゃった」と反省。 Takarafuji, putting up a good fight against Hakuhou but not winning: "Still the yokozuna didn't get flustered. But it was good that I could get the spectators a bit excited." 宝富士　白鵬に善戦及ばず。「やっぱり横綱は慌てない。でも、少しでもお客さんが沸いてくれてよかった」 Chiyotairyuu, for the third day straight participating in the final bout of the day: "At last I'm being released from the torture. From here on sumou of heaven commences for me." 千代大龍　３日連続で結びの一番。「やっと拷問から解放される。これから天国相撲に入れる」 Goueidou, starting with 4-1 in the basho that's important for setting a base for oozeki-tori: "It's passable. I'm able to go with a good feeling of tension." 豪栄道　大関とりの足固めを狙う大事な場所の序盤は４勝１敗。「まずまず。いい緊張感で取れている」 Thanks Alaktorn, that makes sense! Day 4 Wakanosato, third win in juuryou. The veteran about to tie for 8th in total [sekitori I presume] stage appearances: "I want to cling on but not fuss over be fixated on my active duty." 若の里　十両の土俵で３勝目。通算出場記録を歴代８位タイとしたベテランは、「しがみついてでも現役にこだわりたい」。 Terunofuji, amidst pain from cellulitis of the right leg getting the better of the 3-minute long epic struggle, completely exhausted: "Both for mind and body, this is the most intense basho." 照ノ富士　右足の蜂窩織（ほうかしき）炎にも苦しみながら３分超の熱戦を制す。「気持ちも体も、一番きつい場所」とぐったり。 Goueidou, standing the challenge against spirited Chiyoootori: "My opponent's body/hips was heavy; when he gets but once you get into that stance..." 豪栄道　勢いのある千代鳳の挑戦を退け、「相手の腰は重かったが、あの体勢になればね」。 Hakuhou, amongst the three yokozuna, already the only one without a loss now: "Still (the basho) has merely begun." 白鵬　３横綱の中で、土つかずは早くも自身だけ。「まだ（場所は）始まったばかり」。

Day 3 Endou, getting his second win, and on the 4th day facing Kakuryuu. Last basho on day one losing to him in a close bout: "The feeling going out and facing him is strong." 遠藤　２勝目を挙げ、４日目は鶴竜戦。先場所初日は惜敗しており、「向かっていく気持ちが強い」。 Tochiozan, taking down Kyokutenhou against whom he has trouble to get his first win. Fumi-komi (stepping into) was good; responding with a lively voice: "I'm feeling good. It was a good tachi-ai." 栃煌山　苦手の旭天鵬を下して初白星。踏み込みが良く「気分がいい。いい立ち合いだった」と声が弾む。 Goueidou, avoiding consecutive losses: "Yesterday I had a half-baked tachi-ai, so I reflected on that as some elder lady called me last night and made me aware of the importance of the tachi-ai. Looks like today if I go without hesitation then it's good." 豪栄道　連敗を免れ「きのうは中途半端な立ち合いだったので反省した。きょうみたいに迷いなくいければいい」。 Hakuhou, three wins, speaking in a composed manner: "I'm able to move forward. Because if my opponents are leaving it to me (?), I am able to essentially do migi-yotsu." 白鵬　３連勝。「前に出られている。相手が残せば、本来の右四つの相撲ができるのでは」と余裕の弁。

Day 1 Sadanoumi, shin-nyuumaku. Celebrating his 27th birthday with a win: "The first day I went out with a lot of anxiety; (as for the basho) it's still a long way to go." 佐田の海　新入幕。２７歳の誕生日を自らの白星で飾り、「不安だらけで迎えた初日だが、（場所は）まだまだある」。 Aminishiki, getting his 700th total win in a bout that went just according to plan. For makuuchi (appearances) too tied for 10th, with a smiling face: "I've been enduring something long, eh? I was forgetting (about that)." 安美錦　注文相撲で通算７００勝。幕内在位も１０位タイとなり「長いこと持ちこたえたね。忘れてたよ」と笑顔。 Chiyoootori, as new komusubi having his first yokozuna bout: "The athmosphere is completely different, I was very tense. I didn't get the chance to do anything. I want to view it as a good lesson." 千代鳳　新小結で初の横綱戦。「雰囲気が全然違い、緊張した。何もやらせてもらえなかった。いい勉強にしたい」 Goueidou, in a basho where he's aiming to get a good base for oozeki-tori (for an oozeki run next basho). Starting with a win but the content wasn't very good, collecting himself: "Shonichi is this (special) thing. From here on is what counts." 豪栄道　大関とりの足固めを狙う場所。白星発進も内容はいまひとつで「初日はこんなもの。またこれから」と気を取り直す。 Day 2 Arawashi, first win in makuuchi. Having Sadanoumi as opponent who is shin-nyuumaku as well: "I was able to go all out without thinking about anything. A win is a win, I'm happy." 荒鷲　幕内初白星。同じ新入幕の佐田の海を相手に「思い切って何も考えずにやれた。勝ちは勝ちでうれしい」。 Aminishiki, consecutive wins against the two sekiwake, see : "I'm not doing my own sumou to the extent of when I'm fighting at a higher rank. (?) As long as I'm facing the joui (higher rankers), I have to do my own sumou." 安美錦　関脇に連勝し、「上位とやるときほど自分の相撲を取らないと」と再認識。 Yoshikaze, not able to follow up on his win against the yokozuna, full of chagrin: "That was close! Day 14 Jiji didn't post the usual shitaku-beya set of 4 rikishi quotes, so I just collected a few from other Jiji articles. Overpowering Hakuhou against whom he'd won only three times in the past 33 encounters: "I was only thinking about doing my own sumou. In the shitaku-beya with his eyes closed, and not responding to questions there; showing chagrin and when leaving the grounds, just a brief response: "As the basho hasn't ended yet, tomorrow I'll gambarize. " 支度部屋では目を閉じて質問に答えず、会場を去る際に「まだ場所は終わっていないので、あしたは頑張る」とひとこと。悔しさをにじませた I won't be able to do any translations tomorrow, so thanks again to everyone!

Day 13 Houmashou, sitting out the January tournament due to appendicitis. Juuryou yuushou decided: "As I was getting my wife worried, I wanted to display a healthy shape and give her peace of mind." 豊真将　虫垂炎で初場所を全休。十両優勝を決め、「妻に心配を掛けていたので、元気な姿を見せて安心させたかった」。 Takayasu, after two losses to him in the past, this time defeating Endou: "I got make-koshi and it set me free. My body was moving just the way I planned." 高安　２連敗していた遠藤を転がす。「負け越して吹っ切れたところがあった。思った通りに体が動いた」 Endou, M1e, getting his 7th loss after which I cannot get any more if he wants to get promoted to sanyaku, unconcerned and without changing his facial expression: "" 遠藤　東前頭筆頭。新三役昇進へ後がない７敗目にも「あした向かっていくだけ」。表情を変えずに淡々と。 Kotoshougiku, onesidedly getting Hakuhou upright and yorikiriing him to be one win away from kachi-koshi now, with a smile coming through: "I was able to hit hard. I won through spirit only." 琴奨菊　白鵬を一方的に寄り立てて勝ち越しに王手。「しっかり当たれた。気持ちだけで勝った」と笑みもこぼれる。

Day 12 Chiyomaru, as shin-nyuumaku following his younger brother Chiyoootori to kachi-koshi, smiling over the whole face: "I'm happy. It's completely different from what was until now. I had the feeling that I want to go on (and get kachi-koshi (?)) myself too." 千代丸　新入幕の場所で、実弟の千代鳳に続いて勝ち越す。「うれしい。今までと全然違う。自分も続こうという気持ちだった」と満面の笑み。 Oosunaarashi, one more win needed for kachi-koshi. Applying pressure to his injured right foot, returning to the tournament, but being defeated: "It's painful. But, being absent is unpleasant. I can keep going for the remaining time." 大砂嵐　勝ち越しまであと１勝。右足のけがを押して再出場するが敗れ、「痛い。でも、休場は嫌だ。残りはいける」。 Goueidou, one more win needed to get double digit wins for the first time in 3 basho: "I was able to react to my opponents (Yoshikaze's) movements. Without being conscious of it, I just go day by day." 豪栄道　３場所ぶりの２桁白星にあと１勝。「相手（嘉風）の動きに反応できた。意識せず、一日一日やるだけ」 Harumafuji, getting his first loss: "It doesn't mean that it's over yet, so in the remaining three days I want to gambarize a lot (do my very best)." 日馬富士　１敗に後退。「まだ終わったわけではないから、あと３日間しっかり頑張る」

Day 11 Takanoiwa, in his second makuuchi basho getting his first kachi-koshi. Against the great Mongolian senior, Kyokutenhou, winning after defeat seemed certain: "When I was a child I watched him on TV. I'm happy." 貴ノ岩　幕内２場所目で初めての勝ち越し。モンゴルの大先輩、旭天鵬に逆転勝ちして「小さい頃にテレビで見ていた（相手）。うれしい」。 Chiyoootori, getting kachi-koshi at his highest rank, maegashira 5: "I aimed to do my own sumou, then the good flow just came. There was also luck like the fusenshou." 千代鳳　自己最高の東前頭５枚目で給金を直す。「自分の相撲を心掛けたら、いい流れがきた。不戦勝とか運もあった」 Goueidou, clearly losing to Hakuhou for his third loss: "I was hoping to have a chance... He doesn't overlook even the slightest opportunity." 豪栄道　白鵬に完敗して３敗目。「チャンスだったのになあ…。ちょっとした隙も見逃してくれない。反応が速い」 Kotoshougiku, stopping his losing streak at 4: "I really have to hold out from now on. I want to go and heat myself up." 琴奨菊　連敗を４で止める。「踏ん張りどころは今から。自分自身を盛り上げていきたい」 Akinomaki: You translated 気持ちで負けない as 'feel defeated', so a bit more literally it means something like 'lose spirit' I guess?

Day 10 Yoshikaze, against his Nichidai junior Myougiryuu delivering intense harite and overwhelming him: "I was at the receiving end of a matta and got pissed off. That is a senior's disposition." 嘉風　日体大の後輩の妙義龍に強烈な張り手を見舞って圧倒。「待ったをされて腹が立っていた。これが先輩の意地」 Tochiouzan, clear win against Endou. His opponent who, following last Aki basho when he was shin-nyuumaku, showed his presence: "Generally I thought if I can go and push it's ok." 栃煌山　遠藤に完勝。相手が新入幕だった昨年秋場所に続いて貫禄を示し、「普通に押していけば大丈夫と思った」。 Goueidou, kachi-koshi in his 12th consecutive basho as sekiwake. Again having the ambition to set a foundation towards his aim at oozeki with this basho: "As there are still 5 more days, I can't just be relieved." 豪栄道　１２場所連続の関脇で勝ち越す。「まだ５日あるので、ホッとはしていられない」。再び狙う大関の足場固めへ意欲。 Kakuryuu, at one loss facing the final stage of his tsunatori basho, full of confidence: "I'm able to concentrate on the immediate bout. My body is moving naturally too." 鶴竜　綱とり場所は１敗で終盤戦へ。「目の前の一番に集中できている。自然に体も動いている」と自信満々。 Thank you so much Akinomaki to take your time to point out my mistakes even several days later! Day 9 Sadanofuji, after 8 losses finally getting his first win: "It felt long. Not to get demoted to juuryou, I want to win many more than just one." 佐田の富士　８連敗後にようやく初白星。「長く感じた。（十両に）落ちないよう、１番でも多く勝ちたい」 Takekaze, 500th total win, seemingly moved: "(12 years ago) my first win was against Ama (now Harumafuji)." 豪風　通算５００勝。「（１２年前の）１勝目の相手は安馬（現日馬富士）だったな」と感慨深そう。 Endou, skillfully handled by Goueidou, and winning streak stopped at 4. Asked about sumou techniques etc, with a gloomy face giving a half-hearted/vague answer: "Sou desu ne (that's so, isn't it)" 遠藤　豪栄道にうまく取られ、４連勝でストップ。取り口などを聞かれても「そうですね」と暗い顔で生返事。 Kakuryuu, holding on to the record of 1 loss, with a calm an collected way of speaking: "Since I got the mawashi I could calm down and just go on. I want to go and continue today's sumou." 鶴竜　１敗を堅持。「まわしを取ってからは落ち着いて取れた。きょうの相撲を続けていきたい」と口ぶりも沈着冷静

Day 8 Satoyama, the lightest in makuuchi at 123 kilo. Rolling the almost 80 kilo heavier Gagamaru with shitate-nage (underarm throw): "If I get into shape (my special) position I don't feel weight. The throw went naturally." 里山　幕内最軽量の１２３キロ。８０キロ近く重い臥牙丸を下手投げで転がす。「形にはまったら重さは感じない。投げは自然に出た」 Oosunaarashi, a turnaround loss against Endou, getting his first loss: "What a waste. At the end, it'd have been good if I had dropped my hips a bit and moved forward." 大砂嵐　遠藤に逆転負けして初黒星。「もったいない。最後は、もっと腰を落として前に出ればよかった」 Tamawashi, finally his first win on day 8. In the shitaku-beya (dressing room), asked if "from here on, 8 consecutive wins?", he replied: "As a pro, I want to do that." 玉鷲　中日でようやく初日。支度部屋で「ここから８連勝か」と水を向けられ、「プロとして、それをやりたい」。 Hakuhou, for the seventh time straight getting his kachi-koshi on day 8: "For a yokozuna winning might seem natural, but it's a serious/difficult thing. The feeling is good." 白鵬　７場所連続のストレート給金。「横綱は勝って当たり前と思われるかもしれないが、大変なこと。気持ちがいい」

Day 7 Chiyoootori, his shishou (stablemaster) Kokonoe oyakata appeared to give ccommentary on TV, but from his heya all sekitori lost today: "I wanted to display something good. I'm afraid of tomorrow's keiko." 千代鳳　師匠の九重親方がテレビ解説に出演したが、自身も含めて部屋の関取は全敗。「いいところを見せたかった。あしたの稽古が怖い」 Yoshikaze, overwhelming Okinoumi whom he previously had a 0-6 record against with a swift attack. 5th win: "Now (this basho), when I become aware of it/realize it, (I'm attacking and) am at the edge of the dohyou (already). Without being stiff I'm able to concentrate." 嘉風　過去６戦全敗だった隠岐の海を速攻で圧倒。５勝目に「今は、気付いたら（攻め込んで）土俵際にいる。硬くならず集中できている」。 Goueidou, amidst 'Goueidou' calls from the audience, crushing an oozeki with a good record: "I made sure that our chests didn't get close together. It was good that I could live up to the hopes." 豪栄道　観客の豪栄道コールの中、合口のいい大関を撃破。「胸を合わせないようにした。期待に応えられてよかった」 Kisenosato, stopping his losing streak at 2. "The important thing is doing my own sumou. It still is from here on, so..." 稀勢の里　連敗を２で止める。「大事なのは自分の相撲を取ること。まだこれからあるから」

Day 6 Chiyomaru, seeing Satoyama well and getting his fifth win by oshidashi: "I was aware I couldn't get let him inside. The first day's sumou was good and the flow is continuing." 千代丸　里山をよく見て押し出して５勝目。「入らせないことを意識した。初日の相撲が良く、流れが続いている」 Toyohibiki, finally a win. The right knee he injured before the basho is not completely healed yet, but with fighting spirit: "So I don't run out of spirit, I want to keep going." 豊響　ようやく白星。場所前に痛めた右膝は完治していないが、「気持ちを切らさないようにやりたい」と気合。 Yoshikaze, a bout against an oozeki for the first time in 2 years, and a win against Kisenosato for the first time in 8 years. Day 5 Satoyama, for the first time in a hon-basho being tsuyuharai in Hakuhou's yokozuna dohyou-iri: "I was nervous, but I've done it for Baruto's intai-zumou and it was fine." 里山　白鵬の横綱土俵入りの際、本場所では初めて露払いを務め「緊張したけど、把瑠都関の引退相撲でやっていてよかった」。 Kyokutenhou, beating Taihou for 5th place with 873 total career wins: "What I've surpassed is just the number, I've come this far so I aim higher. (?) It follows from determination. It leads to more motivation." 旭天鵬　大鵬を抜き歴代５位の通算８７３勝。「抜いたのは数字だけだが、せっかくだから上に挑む。やる気につながる」 Shouhouzan, pulling down Kotooushuu and first win: "He went with his head down, so by me stepping aside he touched the ground with his hand. My opponent did skillfully from there on so..." 豪栄道　ライバルの栃煌山に敗れて初黒星。「（懐に）浅く入られて…。相手はあそこからがうまいから」と反省。

Day 4 Okinoumi, complete defeat against Hakuhou. Without following up on the win against Kakuryuu the previous day: "Force went into my shoulder and my head went up. Nothing came out of this." 隠岐の海　白鵬に完敗。前日の鶴竜戦に続く殊勲星はならず、「肩に力が入ってヘッドアップした。これじゃ収穫がない」。 Goueidou, pushed onto the dohyou's edge but winning after defeat seemed certain, with narrow eyes: "The content isn't good. As Last basho I started with 4 consecutive wins too and then crumbled." 豪栄道　押し込まれて土俵際で逆転勝ち。「内容としては良くない。先場所も４連勝して崩れたし」と引き締め直す。 Kisenosato, 4 consecutive wins. On day 5 first encounter with Endou, with fighting spirit: "I think my opponent is skillful, but I have stronger spirit than that." 稀勢の里　４連勝。５日目は遠藤の初挑戦を受ける。「（相手は）うまいと思うけど、それ以上に強い気持ちで」と気合。 Kotoshougiku, showing his different status to Endou: "I have various experiences too, I was remembering sumou where there are difficult things, so..." 琴奨菊　遠藤に格の違いを見せ「自分もいろいろな経験、苦しいことがあって相撲を覚えていったから」。

Aminishiki, equalled for 10th in line for most makuuchi appearances, and getting a win, unconcernedly: "I've been doing this for ages, so I guess that's why it's like that." 安美錦　幕内出場記録で歴代１０位に並んだ記念日を白星で飾る。「長いことやっているから、そういうこともあるだろう」と淡々。 Tamawashi, fighting Hakuhou for the first time in 3 years and putting up a good fight, in good spirits despite the loss: "I thought it went well. The content was good. Tomorrow I have another yokozuna bout, so..." 玉鷲　３年ぶりに白鵬に挑んで善戦。「いけたと思った。内容はいい。あしたも横綱戦だから」と黒星にも意気盛ん。 Kotoshougiku, one-sided loss with a half-baked tachiai, just reflecting: "It's no good, eh? The tachiai though. It was useless." 琴奨菊　中途半端な立ち合いで、一方的な敗戦。「駄目だね。立ち合いが。あかんかった」と反省ばかり。 Kakuryuu, stepping back to easily defeat Shouhouzan against whom he had a previous record of 7-0: "I tried do sumou in a calm and solid way." 鶴竜　過去７戦全勝の松鳳山を難なく退け、「しっかり落ち着いて相撲を取ろうとした」。

Day 1 Terunofuji, shinnyuumaku. Starting with a win: "I couldn't get yotsu, so I went with it as it was. (As for the joy of winning, compared to time back in juuryou) It doesn't change very much." 照ノ富士　新入幕。白星発進に「四つに組めなかったから、そのまま出た。（勝利の喜びは十両時代と）あまり変わらない」 Kyokutenhou, ranked 4th for most bashos in makuuchi with 91 bashos. With a bitter smile: "In the end it came that I (almost) seemed to fall. That's the reality." 旭天鵬　幕内在位は歴代４位に並ぶ９１場所。勝っても苦笑し「最後は転びそうになった。あれが現実」。 Chiyotairyuu, defeating Toyohibiki whom he lost against by isamiashi (inadvertent forward step out) in Hatsu basho: "For the first time in a long while I can do my own sumou being in good shape." 千代大龍　初場所は勇み足で負けた豊響を破る。「足には気を付けようと思った。久々にいい形で自分の相撲を取れた」 Hakuhou, off to a great start without issues against Shouhouzan: "I dodged my opponent's throw skillfully, and had him sort of defeated.", with plenty of composure. 白鵬　松鳳山を問題にせず上々のスタート。「相手の投げをうまくかわして、負かした感じかな」と余裕たっぷりに。 Source: Jiji Press' Shitakubeya.

Day 15 Takanoiwa, 8th win at J1w. Promotion to makuuchi next basho certain, smiling: "It's been my dream since I was a child. I'm happy I managed kachi-koshi." 貴ノ岩　西十両筆頭で８勝目。来場所の新入幕が確実となり「小さい頃からの夢。勝ち越してうれしい」とにこやかに。 Oosunaarashi, makekoshi as shin-nyuumaku. Ending his streak of kachi-koshi since jonokuchi, with fighting spirit: "It's frustrating. I'll do more keiko." 大砂嵐　新入幕で負け越し。序ノ口からの連続勝ち越しが途切れ「悔しい。もっと稽古をやる」と闘志。 Ikioi, first double-digit win record in makuuchi and with 11 wins getting the kantou-shou, with energy: "It's the result of doing my best for 15 days. I'm still aiming higher." 勢　幕内では初の２桁勝利となる１１勝を挙げ敢闘賞。「１５日間精いっぱいやった結果。まだまだ上を目指す」と威勢よく。 Chiyotairyuu, getting his 11th win not with his favourite tsuki/oshi (pushing and shoving) techniques, but with yotsu (belt) instead: "I'm getting the ginou-shou (technique prize), so..." 千代大龍　得意の突き押しではなく、四つ相撲で１１勝目。「技能賞を取っているので…」

Day 14 Kyokushuuhou, in his third basho in makuuchi finally kachi-koshi, with a smile across the whole face: "Today is my father's birthday so I wanted to go out with fighting spirit. I'm happy." 旭秀鵬　幕内３場所目でようやく勝ち越し。「きょうはお父さんの誕生日だから気合が入っていた。うれしい」と満面の笑み。 Ikioi, first double-digit wins in makuuchi: "It's because if the content is good, the results will be good too. If you have strength then you naturally move up on the banzuke." 勢　幕内で初の２桁白星。「内容が良ければ、結果もいいので。力が付けば、番付も自然と上がっていく」 Houmashou, with three consecutive wins now at 5 wins: "I feel that finally the engine has come to start. It's a bit too late, eh?" 豊真将　３連勝で５勝目。「やっとエンジンがかかってきた感じ。遅過ぎですね」 Goueidou, kachi-koshi on day 14: "I'm not satisfied with it. I want to keep tight in the last bout, and do good sumou that leads on to the next basho." 豪栄道　１４日目での勝ち越し。「納得いかない。最後の一番はしっかり締めて、来場所へつなげるいい相撲を取りたい」

Kagamio, kachi-koshi at the top of juuryou. Certainty of shin-nyuumaku: "I was tense and don't remember the sumou I did. didn't remember sumou. Yesterday my heart was pounding and I couldn't sleep." 鏡桜　十両筆頭で勝ち越す。新入幕を確実とし「緊張して相撲は覚えていない。きのうはドキドキして寝られなかった」。 Chiyotairyuu, indifferent towards his third loss: "I was pushed out in one shove (by Kisenosato). It was a perfect hit and loss." 千代大龍　「（稀勢の里に）一発で押し込まれた。完璧に当たり負けした」と３敗目に淡々。 Aoiyama, defeating Kakuryuu and getting kachi-koshi. With some excitement: "I'm happy. I was nervous, but I put strength into my stomach, calmed down and managed to do sumou." 碧山　鶴竜を破って給金直し。興奮気味に「うれしい。緊張したけど、おなかに力を入れて落ち着いて相撲を取れた」。 Tochiouzan, losing to Harumafuji and make-koshi, heartbroken: "My attack was good, but (my body) was high. I wanted to step into and attack without stopping, but..." 栃煌山　日馬富士に敗れ負け越し。「当たりは良かったが、高い。踏み込んで一気に攻めたかったが」とがっくり。
