  1. That's oversimplifying a little bit. The way you play the game changes from a 9x9 board to a 19x19 board. And one could bring a good argument about the wide variety of pieces ... there is a very wide variety of groups in Go. Those pieces never live alone, they have to form groups. Those two games are in so many ways different, that we could argue for years trying to compare them. I'm in no way trying to minimize the merit of Chess. My dad taught me Chess when I was three, and Chess played a crucial role in my development. (I am not worthy...) If I ever decided to have kids, I would teach them the golden three: Chess, Go and Bridge!
  2. Ah, Go :), a very nice game indeed, actualy more complex than chess. I used to play a lot during my student days, now I must have forgotten how to play :( Sumoforum play-per-email Go tournament anyone?
  3. Hi all, It seems that I have found a sponsor for a one week trip to Japan, to see the second week of one of the Tokyo bashos ;-). That means January or May, isn't it. There would be so many things to do, probably most of them I don't even now yet :) ... I would like to meet othe sumoforum memebers, and see some matches together at the Kokugikan, maybe visit a heya, Sadogatake would be nice because I like those guys, and I could talk with Kotooshu in his native tongue (my girlfriend is Bulgarian and I'm learning from her) If anyone could give me advice what to do, please help me: Should I search a hotel in the vicinity of Kokugikan? How important is this? What seats to buy? How to buy tickets? I don't speak any Japanese aside from what I learned reading Shogun. I don't know what else to ask now, but I'm eagerly awaiting any suggestions. Cheers D.
  4. Watch the language, Kintamayama, I'm learning Bulgarian ;)
  5. ;-) That flip looked really amazing, but I'm worried about Ama landing on his left leg. It surely hurt a little bit. Is he ok? Am I the only one noticing that Ama tends to do little acrobatics on landing? Like if falling flat on his belly (or back) when being thrown isn't interesting enough so he has to spice it up. Sort of like Kyokushuzan sprinting down the hana michi. ... Off topic: go OSH! :-)
  6. Hehe, when I saw the picture I thought about Nishinoshima :D The coulour of the mawashi must have tricked me.
  7. Me! me! me! I was nicknamed "the bear" when I was a child, it works perfectly :D Now how can I adopt him?
  8. (Dribbling...) Sure it is, many thanks!
  9. :-P oh no... it really hurts to watch that right anckle twisting. Who has any news about how serious the injury is? I hope the "little" guy is going to be allright.

  11. Kyokushuzan: "And this is how I did Rodeo in Mongolia, when I was a kid. Yeehaw!" Dejima: "Shut up and let me sleep" Gyoji: "I'm not with them. ;-) "

  14. O' Sullivan vs. Ebdon, 17th frame. Can anyone explain what happened? (Whistling...) I'm confused
  15. There is someone else hiding behind Iwakiyama and in front of Tochinonada. You can hide a lot behind Iwakiyama, maybe someone like Wakanosato? Strong neck muscles seen there. And why the blue mawashi on the same Iwakiyama? Doesn't he wear green?
  16. There is an explanation, you register to see which posts are new. If you are not a registered user then the forum software cannot keep trrack of what you read and what not.
  17. Cool, I bought the Norwegian wood, but didn't read it yet. We'll see how it works for me :) As for other authors, I read some novels by Yasunari Kawabata (Nobel prize winner), and liked it very much. It was a long time a go, as I was a teenager, so I can't describe them properly. Who wrote Musashi? I forgot :(
  18. As you can see from the picture, Asashoryu was throwing the beans with his left hand. (Whistling...)

  20. I speak Slovak with my family, Romanian with my old friends, Serbian/Croatian whenever I get the chance. English is a must for internet, and at work I speak German. Learning some Esperanto lately, just for fun. All the other languages I really needed to learn. If I only knew more Japanese. At least the complete kimarite list. (Clapping wildly...)
  21. Private messages are much safer, the only ones who could get there would be the forum admins or the hosting provider people.
  22. Guys, don't post your email addresses on the forum. Sooner or later a webbot is going to scan these pages, find your emails and store them in some spammers database. And you'll receive tons of spam daily. Forever. B-)
