Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted August 25, 2002 I'm most surprised to see Asashoryu kept at the lowest ozeki rank. Had I participated in GTB, I would have promoted him all the way up to nishi sei-ozeki. :-0 I'm pleased to see Ushiomaru made it to makuuchi. :-9 Does anyone have more divisions? Hoshifransu 0 Posted August 25, 2002 Many thanks for that one, because unfortunately the Kyokai web site takes some time to publish the banzuke ... Well, I was not so so bad for the GTB game for one time ... Takanonami back to again ...
Hoshifransu 0 Posted August 25, 2002 Ushiomaru, Kasuganishiki and Gojoro newly promoted ... Well, in fact, for Gojoro, I didn't remember but it seems he reached the makuuchi in the past. It is said there ...
Zentoryu 154 Posted August 26, 2002 Tamanoshima only Maegashira 5 after his huge 11-4 performance last time, well ... Well, this is actually a better promotion than what can normally be expected with his record and prior rank. An 11-4 record *usually* equals a 7 spot promotion. So from M15 he could have reasonably expected to land somewhere around M8. To have gone any higher than where he ended up (at M5) would have required some banzuke luck, like that experienced by Takanonami.

Tony 16 Posted August 26, 2002 For GTB, I believe that it's not impressive for me! Asashoryu's position is strange because he realized a very good Nagoya basho and I though that he would be Ozeki 1 West. It's hard for Jumonji and Hayateumi. I hope that Chiyotenzan will come back in makuuchi division.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted August 26, 2002 As probably most of you, I am a bit taken aback by Asashoryu's positioning, as I am of the humble opinion that kadoban Ozeki should be ranked last, whether or not they are kosho. Oh well... did ANYBODY get this right in GTB? :) Cheers! Zenjimoto

Oh well... did ANYBODY get this right in GTB? Hey, the men in black have to keep you guys honest! :-P If they did what we expected that would take the fun out of the GTB. :-9 I could only assume that Asashoryu's positioning has more to do with seniority than with previous record. (He has yet to prove himself as an Ozeki, etc.) Otherwise I have no idea why they would place him last.
