Day 6 results and day 7 pairings

Recommended Posts

Kotoryu and Jumonji lost today, so Ozeki Chiyotaikai is

the first sole leader of the basho with 6-0. Yokozuna

Asashoryu is one win behind with Ozeki Kaio and Komusubi

Dejima following at 4-2.

Kyokutenho is a positive surprise with 4-2 so far while

several Sanyaku rikishi Musoyama, Wakanosato and Kotomitsuki

are performing below expectations.

Maku-jiri Tochinohana looks like an early lock for demotion

at 0-6. Akinoshima isn't far behind with 1-5 at M12w.

In Juryo Tochisakae was dominating until now, but today

he surprisingly lost to Aogiyama. Now the two more former

Makuuchi rikishi Hamanishiki and Hayateumi are sharing the

lead at 5-1. Juzan returned but looked not strong enough

to manage a win in Juryo.

Damn Chiyotaikai. He just can't do anything against Tosanoumi. He just can't move him. Today he didn't even try, he just went and pulled him. But he was lucky and the pull was successful.

I wonder what is that mysterious quality that allows Tosa to stop Taikai's charges. I mean, sure Kaio can do it sometimes, and so can Maru, but you'd expect it from them, as they are both heavier than him and ranked high. But Tosanoumi? It seems that for any Ozeki/Yokozuna he's just an ordinary Sanyaku opponent to take into consideration. For Chiyotaikai he's a nightmare (at least recently).

Mabye assistance from the gods?  Maybe he has a little voodoo doll with Chyiotaikai's name on it?  :-(

Kyokutenho is a positive surprise with 4-2

With nice wins, today, including Asashoryu.  If nothing else, he has confidence and relatively good health.  Those two traits are getting hard to find in makuuchi.
