Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted February 1, 2006 Few workmates of mine asked me to come up with a plan to play a Formula 1 game during the 2006 season about to commence in early March. So I did. It involves making a guess before the season starts and a new guess before each of the nineteen grands prix. Maximum number of points in the season guess and in each of the GP guesses is 100 points so that theoretical grand total is (100 + 19 * 100=) 2000 points which means the season guess is only a small part of the whole game (since if you happen to pick up wrong favourites all the fun in the game has gone very early) and the great majority of points is picked from the individual GPs. Before going to more details I'd like to ask whether you were interested to play such a game here on the forum as well? I suppose there are more petrolheads here than just me? My workmates did ask me also to put the game onto the web. Although I know enough about the basics of programming to realize such a simple game wouldn't be too complicated to program for someone who understands these things, I'm simply not that person. (Laughing...) Anyone who has computers as a hobby and has assembled few dozen PCs to your relatives and workmates probably knows that suddenly you're supposed to be able to churn out Excel formulas on the spot from your sleeves and write printer drivers to someone's 1989 Olivetti dot-matrix. All this just because you possess the esoteric knowledge about Socket 939 processors not fitting into a Socket 754... (I am not worthy...)
Odoriou 0 Posted February 1, 2006 (edited) I am definitely interested in playing. But programming is a different topic... I'm organizing a small F1 game in an even smaller racing games forum, but it's only based on a simple Excel table without any formulas in it. To make the game a little bit more interesting I'm also illustrating every GP in this style: Malaysia GP 2005: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/Odor/Malaysia2005.png first 2006 cars: Maximum number of points in the season guess and in each of the GP guesses is 100 points so that theoretical grand total is (100 + 19 * 100=) 2000 points ... By the way... the 2006 season has probably only 18 GPs, as Belgium will very likely be excluded. :'-( Edited February 1, 2006 by Odoriou
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted February 1, 2006 I've understood the Spa situation is still completely open. I believe an agreement will be found and the race held but that remains to be seen. In case a GP is postponed or for some other reason can not be counted towards total points (USA GP 2005 being an excellent example) according to the game rules (still under slight revision), season points will be doubled. In my workplace practically everyone has wanted to take part (Finns are F1 nuts) and we're thinking about a suitable sum to be paid to be able to play and how that money should be paid out to the winners. Of course on the forum everything's about pride and glory. (I am not worthy...) You do realize the Kiwi orange is a temporary colour for McLaren?
Odoriou 0 Posted February 2, 2006 I know, it's only a test livery. Looking at the amount of feedback in this thread I believe Sumoforum's Formula 1 game would be a very exclusive event. It seems like Sumo and Formula 1 don't fit together... .
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted February 2, 2006 My Sumo FAQ idea didn't exactly set the world ablaze either so the lack of interest in F1 might as well be because of the topic starter.

Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted February 4, 2006 I'm too tired of being in contact with anyone right now. I better go to hell. Sorry for wasting your time, folks. I'll try to stay away from here. Some things just don't work out.
