Gusoyama 104 Posted December 17, 2024 Big change for the Sumo Prediction Game: There will no longer be a banzuke. I hated doing them, and they took too long, and they punished people who didn't play one basho. So, now I'm moving to a leaderboard, with the number of correct answers you've had over your career. I've also added a display for yusho, jun-yusho, and "special technique prize", which you get if you get the tiebreaker question exactly right. Going forward there will be no "adjustment wins" and the ranking will be strictly on how many correct answers you get. With that out of the way, here's the ranking for Hatsu 2025: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B_c37D4rSX12ef3-scYxVKw9lxpNW6IjwpjpcDKqs24/edit?usp=sharing I like this way because it shows interesting info, like how dominant Yarimotsu has been at this game with a yusho, 3 jun-yusho, and a special prize, and highlights the Jun-Yusho winners. Kachikoshi 37 Posted December 26, 2024 The problem with this new approach is it means those who have been playing the longest can essentially never be caught. Basically the number one criterion for topping the leaderboard is how many bashos you’ve participated in, with performance in those bashos a distant second. And this means that contrary to your intent, missing a basho is penalized much more heavily than before. I think it’s okay to have this all-time leaderboard as a side option, but something else should be the main ranking system. One option is to look at just the last six tournaments, which is what Guess the Banzuke and Chain Gang do. Alternatively, if you wanted to go back to a traditional banzuke, I am happy to take over this aspect of the game since I actually find making banzuke to be very interesting.
