Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 15, 2003 Today everything went in favor of Chiyotaikai. He did his part with a win over Tamanoshima and then could watch his only serious yusho contender Asashoryu lose to Komusubi Dejima. Other Sanyaku lost too with Kaio, Wakanosato and Kotomitsuki. Musoyama even had to withdraw from the basho with a shoulder injury. Hokutoriki is the only rikishi left at 6-1 with nine rikishi following at 5-2. Dejima and Kyokutenho continue to impress, both having won against Asashoryu. In Juryo Tochisakae and Hamanishiki won decisively and share the lead at 6-1. Hayateumi lost to Asanowaka and falls back. -- Doitsuyama Zensho One loss Two losses Three losses ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- Chiyotaikai Hokutoriki Asashoryu Kaio Dejima Tosanoumi Kyokutenho Takanonami Tamanoshima Iwakiyama Kotoryu Kyokushuzan Tokitsuumi Aminishiki Miyabiyama Tamarikido Buyuzan Jumonji Day 7 Juryo Ms4e Masutsuyoshi (2-2) uwatenage J13w Hidenokuni (1-6) J11w Juzan (1-4-2) oshidashi J10w Harunoyama (4-3) J9e Hamanishiki (6-1) yoritaoshi J11e Kakizoe (4-3) J8e Tochisakae (6-1) oshidashi J13e Kotonomine (3-4) J7e Wakakosho (4-3) yorikiri J12e Tomikaze (3-4) J6e Gokenzan (2-5) yorikiri J10e Kitazakura (2-5) J5e Senshuyama (3-4) oshidashi J9w Dewanofuji (3-4) J3w Aogiyama (4-3) oshidashi J8w Wakatoba (3-4) J3e Asanowaka (5-2) oshitaoshi J6w Hayateumi (5-2) J4w Ushiomaru (4-3) tsukidashi J2w Otsukasa (3-4) J4e Oginishiki (3-4) yorikiri J2e Kobo (3-4) J1w Yotsukasa (4-3) oshidashi J1e Komahikari (2-5) Makuuchi M15e Tochinohana (1-6) oshidashi M12e Kinkaiyama (2-5) M11e Hokutoriki (6-1) hikiotoshi M13e Kasuganishiki (3-4) M10w Buyuzan (5-2) tsukiotoshi M14w Jumonji (5-2) M10e Asasekiryu (3-4) okuridashi M12w Akinoshima (1-6) M9w Miyabiyama (5-2) oshidashi M14e Gojoro (3-4) M8e Tokitsuumi (5-2) yorikiri M11w Tamarikido (4-3) M9e Aminishiki (4-3) oshidashi M7e Kasugao (1-6) M6e Iwakiyama (4-3) uwatenage M8w Takanotsuru (3-4) M7w Kyokushuzan (4-3) yorikiri M5e Kotoryu (5-2) M4w Tamanoshima (5-2) oshidashi M6w Toki (2-5) M3e Shimotori (3-4) tsukiotoshi M4e Wakanoyama (2-5) M2w Takamisakari (2-5) sukuinage M2e Tochinonada (3-4) K1w Tosanoumi (4-3) yoritaoshi S2e Wakanosato (3-4) M1w Kyokutenho (5-2) yorikiri S1w Kotomitsuki (2-5) M1e Takanonami (4-3) yorikiri O2w Kaio (4-3) O2e Chiyotaikai (7-0) oshidashi M3w Kotonowaka (3-4) M5w Kaiho (3-4) fusen O1e Musoyama (1-6) K1e Dejima (5-2) oshidashi Y1w Asashoryu (5-2) Day 8 Makushita Ms15e Daimanazuru (3-0) Ms17w Hokutoiwa (3-0) Ms12e Asahibenten (2-1) Ms15w Hochiyama (2-1) Ms14w Asofuji (0-3) Ms10w Toyonoshima (0-3) Ms9e Sentoryu (1-2) Ms12w Tochinoyama (1-2) Ms6e Kotoiwakuni (2-1) Ms7e Tamanokuni (2-1) Juryo J11e Kakizoe (4-3) J12e Tomikaze (3-4) J13w Hidenokuni (1-6) J11w Juzan (1-4-2) J13e Kotonomine (3-4) J10w Harunoyama (4-3) J9e Hamanishiki (6-1) J10e Kitazakura (2-5) J9w Dewanofuji (3-4) J8w Wakatoba (3-4) J8e Tochisakae (6-1) J6w Hayateumi (5-2) J4e Oginishiki (3-4) J6e Gokenzan (2-5) J5e Senshuyama (3-4) J3w Aogiyama (4-3) J2e Kobo (3-4) J4w Ushiomaru (4-3) J7e Wakakosho (4-3) J2w Otsukasa (3-4) J3e Asanowaka (5-2) J1w Yotsukasa (4-3) Makuuchi J1e Komahikari (2-5) M12w Akinoshima (1-6) M14w Jumonji (5-2) M11w Tamarikido (4-3) M10e Asasekiryu (3-4) M14e Gojoro (3-4) M12e Kinkaiyama (2-5) M10w Buyuzan (5-2) M13e Kasuganishiki (3-4) M9w Miyabiyama (5-2) M8e Tokitsuumi (5-2) M11e Hokutoriki (6-1) M15e Tochinohana (1-6) M8w Takanotsuru (3-4) M9e Aminishiki (4-3) M7w Kyokushuzan (4-3) M4e Wakanoyama (2-5) M6e Iwakiyama (4-3) M3e Shimotori (3-4) M7e Kasugao (1-6) M5w Kaiho (3-4) M3w Kotonowaka (3-4) M6w Toki (2-5) M2w Takamisakari (2-5) K1e Dejima (5-2) M2e Tochinonada (3-4) M1e Takanonami (4-3) K1w Tosanoumi (4-3) S2e Wakanosato (3-4) S1w Kotomitsuki (2-5) M1w Kyokutenho (5-2) O2w Kaio (4-3) O2e Chiyotaikai (7-0) M4w Tamanoshima (5-2) Y1w Asashoryu (5-2) M5e Kotoryu (5-2)

He did hispart with a win over Tamanoshima and then could watch his only serious yusho contender Asashoryu lose to Komusubi Dejima. Won against Kotonowaka, you meant to say. His bout with Tamanoshima is tomorrow, and I wouldn't be giving him that win so automatically. Tamanoshima is looking good... Dejima looked impressive. Asashoryu seemed to have a little advantage from the beginning, but Deji first stopped his charge, then broke his hold and shoved him out. Quite convicing, I must say. Kaio's loss today probably means that he's out of the yusho race and will concentrate on getting his KK, which doesn't seem so certain now. I hope he will get it, though. He doesn't deserve to be demoted.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 15, 2003 Before, I was thinking Chyiotaikai would lose to Dejima, setting up Asashoryu-Chyiotaikai 13-1 to 13-1 on senshuraku. Now it will be more difficult, as Chyiotaikai must lose twice (at least) and Asa go perfect the rest of the way. But we will see :-(

Manekineko 200 Posted March 15, 2003 Hm, I had more faith in Shoryu... two kinboshi given before nakabi, not a very stellar performance. Of course, when you consider who the two maegashira were, it isn't catastrophic at all! He should roll over most of san'yaku (excepting That Person currently in lead) with ease... Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 15, 2003 He should roll over most of san'yaku (excepting That Person currently in lead) with ease... If the good Wakanosato shows up, I wouldn't be too surprised at another kinboshi. Same for the good Kaio. :-Q

May I remind you that Dejima incredibly is a Sanyaku again. And to Yoavoshimaru, Wakanosato as a Sanyaku is really nothing new, but at the current rate it could be something old next basho... Wins of Komusubi and Sekiwake against a Yokozuna are only kinboshi in the most silly of all Sumo games, the hoshitori contest. :-(
QttP 0 Posted March 15, 2003 Well, your scenario is still nice. Chiyotaikai 13-1 against Asashoryu 12-2 still gives an exciting Senshuraku even with possibly two matches between them. After having this nice scenario in Hatsu 2002, I prefer having Taikai at 14-0 on Senshuraku. Of course, chances for that are ever so slim.
