Tribute to Vinnie Jones

Recommended Posts

Vinnie Jones ? I'm a huge fan of that guy. As a soccer player, he managed to become a legend ... of the "hard game" !

And I'm pretty sure, in soccer, there will be other Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Zidane, but there won't be any other Vinnie Jones.

Vinnie Jones was revealed by Dave "long ball" Bassett, the man who managed to lift the Wimbledon FC team up, from fourth division to the first division during the 80's and Dave Bassett is a great specialist of the traditionnal long-balls english game !

Vinnie became very famous the day he launched a video tape called "Soccer's hard men" where he praised the hard game and made a tribute to all the past hard soccer players in the UK ... He received a huge fine by the federation for this video ...

Vinnie received a lot of yellow and red cards during his games and he was the bad boy on the pitch ...

He was although the greatest ever long throws maker I ever watched ...

Absolutely. That's the movie I wanted to talk about ! "60 secondes chrono" in french !

Vinnie plays the role of "the Sphinx" who does not talk a lot during the movie !  :-/

Sorry, I totally dislike guys like Vinnie. I prefer fair players like Gary Lineker (Linneker?) or Marco Bode.

This is your right ! BTW, the fact you quoted Gary Lineker is interesting because some 3,4 years ago, there was a polemic between both players. Lineker criticized Vinnie Jones in the papers : "Vinnie is just a self-hyped personality"

Jones responded something like : "Lineker has the charisma of a jellyfish and can he come on and talk this to me face to face ?"

Jones ironizing on the fact Lineker was never booked by any yellow card during his career, meanwhile Jones collects the yellow & red cards, which testify of his fighting spirit and his total involvement in the game !

A good article talkin' about all this can be watched in The Observer's archives

If you like total fair play, of course, you like Lineker.

It's respectable.

If you like the rough game, you like Vinnie Jones.  :-9
