Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 18, 2003 Chiyotaikai won without fight as Shimotori had to go kyujo with a rib injury - no kosho as three weeks recovery time is estimated. All three Maegashira pursuers of Chiyotaikai lost, so the Ozeki is now two wins ahead of six rikishi, led by Yokozuna Asashoryu who showed no signs of a possibly hurting elbow. Juryo leader Tochisakae lost to a strong Ushiomaru. He stays sole Juryo leader at 8-2 because Hamanishiki lost to Aogiyama. Hamanishiki shares second place with Asanowaka and Yotsukasa. The latter two have best chances for Makuuchi promotion so far. -- Doitsuyama [pre] Makuuchi yusho arasoi One loss
QttP 0 Posted March 18, 2003 All three Maegashira pursuers of Chiyotaikai lost, so the Ozekiis now two wins ahead of six rikishi, led by Yokozuna Asashoryu who showed no signs of a possibly hurting elbow. Asashoryu v. Tamanoshima was a win-win situation for Chiyotaikai. With Shoryu's win, he's now two wins ahead of the rest. If Tamanoshima had won, Taikai'd still be one win ahead of him (and not having to battle him again), plus he'd be 3 wins ahead of any Sanyaku opposition. But, Asashoryu showed very good sumo today and was in total control from beginning to end. The tournament is still open and will provide some intrigue.
