New banzuke

This banzuke was very interesting.  I think they made the right move by moving Asashouryu to Sekiwake.  He had 10 wins as a Komusubi, and I don't think Miyabiyama's injury should keep him from it.   Moving Kyokutenhou to Komusubi was a bit surprising for me.   Maybe if I had looked to see that there was no one else  with a kachi-koshi above M5 (except Wakanosato) I would have seen it coming.  I'd be surprised if he was able to keep it.  Hatsubasho is going to be very exciting.

I would never have thought they'd make Tenho a shin-komusubi and therefore I kept Asashoryu as higashi komusubi in GtB. (Blush...)

Now all three Mongols have been promoted at least once to sanyaku. I think of all the gaijin only USA has had three (or more) sanyaku level sekitori this far.

Kotoryu's drop to juryo was the biggest personal disappointment for me. I need to check out when was the last time Sadogatake had only two guys in makuuchi.

Let's put it this way: You were not alone... Taking a look at the GTB standings for this basho, it seems less than 10 put Asashoryu as Sekiwake! (a bit surprising though, since Moti's poll had 30+ guessing he would become Sekiwake).

But it seems the Kyokai felt unusually benevolent this time. Kyokutenho is not someone you'd expect have too many chances to go Komusubi, but he got it cheap.

Is there really ANY other country than Japan, USA and Mongolia that has produced ANY sanyaku? I can't think of one right now (Ok, Korea, but not
