Toyozakura pushed Tomikaze back into makushita.

Kotoiwakuni twisted Kitazakura down after tachi-ai and probably sent him back to makushita too.

Dewanofuji finished basho with decent 7-8 at his juryo debut.

Wakakosho fought for kachi koshi whereas HAmanishiki fought for staying in yusho hunt. Hamanishiki had superior grips the whole  time and after half a dozen throwing attempts finally dragged Waka down with Hamanishiki like uwatedashinage. Hamanishiki is now 10-5 and goes to shitaku-beya to wait if Akinoshima slaps Aogiyama down.

Hayateumi completed the success of Oitekaze-beya by clinching kachi koshi with a nice uwatenage toppling over Wakatoba. Yet Haya's muscular strength is a shadow of what it once was. Even with a solid left hand outside grip he needed way over 20 seconds to go offensive and while doing Wakatoba actually countered powerfully but Haya still has the skill and he dumped Waka neatly. 8-7 for Haya.

Oikari beat Kotonomine and secured Kotonomine's demotion to juryo. Oikari looked unharmed and showed fresh sumo. He has now won 2 out of 3 bouts since his return after 8 day absence and finished basho with 5-2-8

Gokenzan looks soooo old and slow in his movements but gets migi-yotsu today and flattens Senshuyama who hangs on until the last moment on tawara. Both fell off the dohyo and Gokenzan takes his time to gather his things. Senshuyama has looked very weak in this basho. Good training partners at Takasago-beya have not been promoting his condition for this basho. 5-10 at J5 is not good.

In a battle of two 8-6 rikishi Oginishiki stops Ushiomaru's forward charge forcing the bout to belt. Ushiomaru has no tools against Oginishiki who walks him out with yorikiri.

Tochisakae is alert and follows Asanowaka's gimmicks dropping Asa off the yusho race. Tochisakae is now 10-5 and goes to wait for that Aogiyama-Akinoshima spectacle.

Otsukasa slaps down Kakizoe and prevents him from taking part in yusho battle as shin-juryo. Otsupotsu gets a vital win and is now 9-6 at J2 which should earn him a promotion.

In the only 7-7 bout of juryo Kobo faces Harunoyama. Harunoyama ignored Kobo's good throwing attempts and escorts him to make-koshi. Kobo's makuuchi promotion hopes evaporated in an instant.

Komahikari vs Juzan isn't exactly the most anticipated bout. Komahikari is 4-10 and Juzan 1-11-2. Juzan gets his second win with a powerful de-ashi. Komahikari looks totally off.

There should be 5 certain demotees now with Wakatenro, Juzan, Kotonomine, Tomikaze and Hidenokuni. 6th would be Kitazakura with 5-10 at J10 so possibly 6 rikishi get up to makushita. That means Kokkai, Toyozakura, Uchida, Nakao at least and then maybe Sumanofuji and possible even Tanaka (???). I wonder if Kita can even stay in juryo with that record as Tanaka's promotion would seem a bit odd. Can't see any way how any of the 5 certain demotees wouldn't get demoted.

Now we shall wait for Yotsukasa-Asasekiryu and AOgiyama-Akinoshima bouts to find order in juryo results. So far Hamanishiki and Tochisakae are on their way to play-off so tomoe-sen is a certainty should Aogiyama lose and if Yotsukasa beats Asasekiryu it will be 4 rikishi play-off for juryo yusho Hamanishiki as the sole representative of yotsu-sumo.

Akinoshima beat Aogiyama quite easily with oshidashi so now play-off is inevitable. After two bouts Asasekiryu and Yotsukasa decide how many participants. I supposed the play-off is set right after that bout. Monoloque on Sunday morning...

Odd event in Asasekiryu-Yotsukasa bout. At the last visit to corner to wipe sweat and throw salt, Asasekiryu was too fast and threw salt onto dohyo AND entered it while Yotsukasa was still facing the audience and crouching over salt bucket! Isn't this some written or unwritten rule that this entering the dohyo should be done simultaneously always? Or is it just a common practise that nobody really thinks of and as this is Asasekiryu's first salt basho he may have less than automatic proceedings when it comes to salt throw related synchrony. In any case Sekiryu slapped down Yotsukasa.

Tomoe-sen it is:

Hamanishiki-Tochisakae

Hamanishiki came low at the tachi-ai trying to dive deep to get in yotsu-sumo. Sakae was not in mood and slapped down Hama after a tentative tachi-ai.

Tochisakae-Aogiyama

Tochisakae chased Aogiyama off the dohyo without problems and took juryo yusho. He clapped one applautic gesture to his success.

(...) as this is Asasekiryu's first salt basho

Kiyome-jiro is done also in juryo and occasionally also in makushita, I believe.

Yes of course! My mistake, my sin, my relapse. Shojojoe Tochisakae and Chiyotaikai

Thank you for the summary Kaikitsune Makoto

:-D   For someone like me who can't watch juryo bouts but is very interested in the results, it's great to read such summaries.

Nice bout by Tochisakae.  Overall he looked great this basho.  We'll see how he does next in makuuchi  :-D
