Kintamayama 47,193 Posted November 4, 2003 (edited) Wakanosato is aiming for Ozeki. (But we know that.. MD). Futagoyama Oyakata , head of referees said, " I expect him to be in contention for the yusho, therefore I expect a strong 12 win basho". Three years ago in Kyushu, Wakanosato was ranked in Sanyaku for the first time, so Kyushu is lucky for him. He also dropped twice to Maegashira lead, but otherwise stayed in Sanyaku. Last Basho, he beat Asashouryuu with a hearty uwatenage, and beat Ozekis KaioU and Tochiazuma as well. He won his last six bouts, surprising everybody with his ability. But, in the first few days he lost to lesser opponents, which was tres regrettables. He lost on days 3 and 4 and was 4-3 halfway. One of the reasons was a "soft" tachi-ai. Even though his yotsu -zumo from both hands is excellent, he sometimes lets his opponent take the initiative, never getting the chance to show his power on the mawashi, and seems to get lost, and loses as if he were someone else.. He is conscious of this problem, and is making it his number one objective to improve his tachi-ai. He has been doing 30-40 bouts a day, and practicing all kinds of tachi-ai moves. At the shikiri, he doesn't forget to observe his opponent's eyes and lower body movements as well. "I know this is a great chance", he said. he is looking good, and knows that patience is the key.
