Chiyotaikai, Asashoryu and Kaio all won with ease. The Yokozuna

and Ozeki now are gradually leaving the Maegashira and lower

Sanyaku behind in the yusho race. Tokitsuumi even looked like

he is out for the basho as he had to be wheeled away after the

abisetaoshi loss against Takanonami.

Notable exceptions with wins today are the two ex-Ozeki Miyabiyama

and Dejima. Miyabiyama is right in the yusho race only one win

behind Chiyotaikai. Thanks to his slow start his highest ranked

opponent was M5e Kotoryu, tomorrow he is matched up against

M2w Takamisakari. Dejima has secured kachi-koshi today and he

already has faced all opponents from M4 upwards except Wakanosato.

The four highest ranked rikishi left now have their round-robin

mini-tournament over the last three days, so Miyabiyama shouldn't

have to face a Yokozuna or an Ozeki, only exception would be

the omission of an Ozeki-Kotomitsuki bout.

At this point it looks like the two Sekiwake next basho will be

Wakanosato and Dejima as Kaio and Chiyotaikai secured their

Ozeki ranks while Kotomitsuki looks destined for a make-koshi.

The Komusubi slots are up for grabs and it depends on the last

three days of Tosanoumi, Takanonami, Tochinonada, Tamanoshima,

Kotomitsuki and Miyabiyama who will earn them.

In the lower Makuuchi all three Juryo-Makuuchi bouts were won by

the Juryo rikishi and it looks like this could have been exchange

bouts as Asanowaka, Aogiyama and Otsukasa all improved their odds

for a promotion significantly.

The Juryo yusho has become a free-for-all as all three leaders

Tochisakae, Hamanishiki and Yotsukasa lost and all four pursuers

won. Now seven rikishi are leading at 8-4 with two more one win

behind at 7-5.
