Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted February 19, 2003 Hi, I read about the sanyaku soroifumi ceremony on the Kyokai home page and was wondering if anyone had pictures of this? I couldn't find any on a net search. From their web page on a typical basho day: 5:15 Sanyaku Soroifumi This ceremony is one of several that take place only on the fifteenth and final day of every tournament. In it, the top three rikishi from both the east and west sides scheduled to compete in the last three matches of the day step up onto the ring and position themselves in the shape of a Japanese fan. They then perform shiko or traditional sumo foot stamping. This serves to further purify the ring for the coming ultimate competition.
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted February 19, 2003 Hehe, no wonder you couldn't find anything. It is written sanyaku-soroibumi (I must admit that soroifumi could be possible as well). Well, google doesn't return much on soroibumi either, but some pictures are there. No matter anyway, since Dale has captured quite some movies of soroi-bumi and put on his site http://www.dohyo.com.. Here is the most recent one from Kyushu 2002: http://banzuke.com/sumomovies/kyushu2002/day15/soroi_bumi.rm
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted February 19, 2003 As it's performed only twice (or once depending on how you want to count) per basho, it's no wonder the pictures are rare to be found.
