    Sumo Art

Chiyonofuji, God bless him, has generated enough art to fill a modest but respectable museum. Asashosakari has already posted this sculpture on Ozumo discussions (Kokonoe now larger than life June 06 2011) Here's another http://mavshorty01.deviantart.com/art/Chiyonofuji-Statue-453971527 Beautiful drawing + interview on http://mag.citizensofhumanity.com/chiyonofuji-mitsugu/ All these woodcuts are by Kinoshita Daimon and are, along with others, here http://ukiyo-e.org/search?q=kinoshita+daimon I was snotty-nosed about this when I first saw it, but it's growing on me. There's a painting of Konishiki lower down on the page http://www.imagekind.com/Chiyonofuji-Mitsugu-Sumo-Champ_art?IMID=fb52ee0b-ea88-4100-b1d0-8bfbf3d883d5 Here's the page http://marinodraws.tumblr.com/ Black + white photo inspired one of the drawings above https://www.pinterest.com/pin/400609329326205786/ Even his heya's door is a work of art https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokonoe_stable He's influenced gamers http://hg101.proboards.com/thread/9643/tracing-influence-stolen-images-games?page=40 (about halfway down with a picture of a waxwork of him - there may be more than one of those) and http://myanimelist.net/character/25097/Wolfman There's a handprint in Uena Park which has made its mark in the world of palmistry http://www.zdzw.com/html/sjzwyjjj2.htm He's about halfway down in company of the likes of Caravaggio, Django Reinhardt, Sean Connery, Phyllis Diller and many more. He's collectable (one of the items appears to be an old bus ticket, but the copy is in kanji, and the Google Translate version, in both French and English, is unbelievable), so if anybody would like to confirm http://japaneseclass.jp/trends/about/%E5%8D%83%E4%BB%A3%E3%81%AE%E5%AF%8C%E5%A3%AB%E8%B2%A2 And finally, what appears to be a pretty silly book (snotty-nosed again), but if he inspired it, well; http://christinacourtenay.com/?page_id=707 I could probably find more. Long may he continue to inspire. Enjoy
