    You have to wonder what's wrong with Abi mentally (I'm being polite). How do you henka a yusho contender on senshuraku when you have a makekoshi? It's not like he was a sekiwake trying to stay at komusubi. I'm glad that henka wasn't what did in Takayasu this time.

    Like Gagamaru's perpetual ozeki run (I think he may still be running...) Chiyoshoma is only one henka away from becoming a yokozuna....

    In this basho, Onosato in the dohyo-iri or sitting ringside waiting for his bout reminds me of flounder from animal house. I hope they don't start talking ozeki after this basho, an ozeki run should only be counted while sanyaku (unless you're gagamaru) ;-}

    Looks like Shiek Yerbouti was in the east side tamari today, or was that a yak that's found a new disguise to get in to the kokugikan....

    It's a good thing Ura is so mobile, otherwise his elbow would have been Kaio'd (his own fault for sticking it in there).

    Changes you'd like to see in sumo in 2024

    I'd occasionally like to hear that John Gunning guy as color commentator on the english broadcast ;-}

    Why would Gonoyama have to put both hands down before Hoshoryu engaged at all? As far as I know there is no rule stating the lower ranked rikishi must put down both hands before the higher ranked one.

    I like the stare downs that happen after the timekeeper signals jikan desu before they go back to the salt bucket for the last time. The delay or this time, the complete refusal to put even one hand down at the shikiri-sen is BS. If his record was in the high double digits as an ozeki (or had a few more basho under his belt) I could maybe see the attitude. His best record as an ozeki is 8-7. Right now his attitude is way above his game.

    It's good to see that Atamifuji's inexperience and for better words "wake up call" in the last basho doesn't seem to have affected him. I kind of looked at him like Tokushoryu's run to his basho, kind of a once in a lifetime thing. Looks like Atamifuji may have some skills after all :-} I was hoping Gonoyama would knock the smug look off Hoshoryu's face.
  10. Could be the price is too high, especially without an existing heya building to go with it.

    Akiseyama Intai

    Oh no, first Gagamaru ends his ozeki run, and now Akiseyama has ended his run...err..a...jiggle. Good luck to him as Izutsu. I hope he can hold on to it, or latch onto to a kabu more permanent.

    Who will be the next rikishi to retire as a sekitori?

    Aoiyama's stuff is definitely "working", much like Akiseyama's. If he keeps going as he is, he may be the first to win by that new kimarite, "oppaidashi"

    Rikishi Status - 2023 Natsu

    I saw two Kawazoe matches earlier in the basho and he could hardly walk back to the hanamichi. Being a true warrior is one thing, but I hope his (maybe somewhat irrational) drive to get to Juryo as fast as possible doesn't cause him any permanent damage.

    Well if Takakeisho can only achieve a HNH, maybe he should work out against Abi before the next basho. He'll be sure to pick up a few pointers.

    Well that right there is proof that even a blind nut can get a squirrel. Thank you Profomisakari and Yarimotsu for all your hard work.

    I see comments here as to bashos being boring because there are no "dominant" rikishi and have to strongly disagree. I think the most boring time ever in sumo was during hakuho's "reign". Watching him play with his food and knowing there was no chance of anyone else winning the basho unless he slipped up or "allowed" it to happen was boring. At least now there is no preordained outcome. Now it's the last man standing (even if he's a maegashira 83 West)

    GTB invite-Haru 2023 - 166 entries - line is dead

    I guess this question is for the GTB admin, I did a search but couldn't find any info. I was wondering how the GTB participant's "record" was derived. For instance this past GTB, Chiyonosawa and Hoshotakamoto's records were 15-0 with different amounts of correct guesses (within that the bulls eyes and hits). How are the "records" calculated down to 0-15? Is it like being graded on a bell curve? Just curious, and any info is greatly appreciated.

    GTB invitation- Kyushu 2022- Results!!

    I got the last cream-filled donut but someone had squeezed all the cream out of it. It was very unsatisfying, much like my present GTB picks. I mean, 4 sekiwake, 3 komusubi, no ozeki, half a yokozuna. What's this sumo world coming to? We keep going like this, instead of hiramaku basho winners, will have a juryo ranked rikishi winning makuuchi...

    Banzuke for Aki 2022

    Sometimes you eat the bear, so times it bearly eats you. This time the bear chewed me up, spit me out, and then the stomped all over the pieces that were left. That must have been a fun (drunken) night in the izakaya where they drew up that mess. Either that or they wore a blindfold and threw darts at a wall (probably the same izakaya) with the shikonas on it to make the picks.

    So Moti-san, are you saying that "bearly" is the new "properly".
